The Cass County Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees is set to meet on Wednesday, September 23rd at 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room 1 at CCMH.
During the meeting the Board is set to hear routine reports from a number of department leaders. They also are set to act on Approval of Resolutions to approve plans, contract, and bond for a bid package and award that contract for continued work at the facility. They are also set to appoint an Infection Preventionist and an Antibiotic Stewardship Chairperson.
CEO Brett Altman will give an update and the Board will go into closed session at the end of the meeting to conduct a CEO Performance Review.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The Des Moines School board has set a date for returning to school but put off establishing a coronavirus infection rate that would force the district to revert to online-only instruction. Des Moines schools has been the state’s only school system that has refused Gov. Kim Reynolds’ order that they hold at least half their classes in-person unless they have received a waiver because of high infection rates. The board voted to gradually start a hybrid plan of in-person and online courses, starting with pre-kindergarten on Oct. 12 . However, the board will hear from public health experts on metrics that would trigger a return to online-only classes. The board will meet Sept. 28 to set such metrics.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Maikel Franco hit the go-ahead single with two outs in the sixth inning, the Kansas City bullpen shut down the St. Louis Cardinals from the fourth inning on, and the Royals rallied for a 4-1 victory over their cross-state rivals Monday night. Alex Gordon and Jorge Soler also drove in runs for the Royals, who returned for their final homestand after getting swept in Milwaukee, and were starting off with a playoff contender in the Cardinals that had won four straight games. Adam Wainwright took the loss for the Cardinals. Greg Holland earned the save by handling the ninth.
The ADM Tigers nearly swept their home cross country invitational on Monday night. The Tigers won the girls team title and had the individual champ in both varsity races. Nate Mueller won the boys race in 16:45.40 and Geneva Timmerman won the girls race in 19:23.30. The Tigers came in second in the boys team standings, behind North Polk by 17 points.
West Central Valley finished 9th in the boys team standings and they were 7th in the girls team competition.

The Council Bluffs Police Department reports a Bellevue man attempted to harm himself during an arrest early Tuesday morning.
At 1:38 a.m. Officers made contact with 31-year-old Paul L. Pearson Jr. of Bellevue, NE at the Bucky’s Gas Station on S. 24th Street in Council Bluffs. Officers verified that Pearson had warrants out of Bellevue and took him into custody and placed him in the back of a cruiser. Officers noticed he was moving around a lot in the backseat and when they checked on him, he had gotten the handcuffs to the front of his body and wrapped a seatbelt around his neck. Officers were able to cut the seatbelt off of Pearson and get him out of the cruiser.
Council Bluffs Fire then responded and Pearson was placed in an ambulance and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation. After being seen by medical staff, he was released and taken to the Pottawattamie County Jail and booked in on Interference with Official Acts and Fugitive from Justice charges.
A vehicle pursuit through Pottawattamie and Shelby Counties ended with the suspects evading capture on Monday afternoon. The pursuit ended near 400th Street and Quince Road when the suspects were able to escape due to the terrain in which they fled their vehicle.
They are believed to still be in the area and nearby residents should be extra cautious. Shelby County Sheriff’s Officials warned residents to keep their houses and vehicles lock as the suspects will be looking for transportation out of the area. If you see a suspicious person do not approach them and call 911 immediately.
