LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – Backup quarterback Davis Webb threw for three touchdowns and 415 yards in place of the injured Baker Mayfield to lead No. 20 Texas Tech over Iowa State 42-35 on Saturday.

Webb was 35 for 56 with an interception and Kenny Williams, DeAndre Washington and Sadale Foster each ran for a score for Texas Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big 12). The Red Raiders are bowl eligible at the earliest date since 2008 in their first season under coach Kliff Kingsbury.

The Cyclones (1-4, 0-2) got a 95-yard kickoff return and 38-yard punt return from Jarvis West, and 12 points off three turnovers by the Red Raiders.

The Cyclones pulled within 42-35 on a touchdown pass from Sam Richardson to E. J. Bibbs with less than 2 minutes left. Richardson was 15 for 38 for 168 yards and a touchdown.

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Lance Lynn will start Game 4 of the NL championship series for the St. Louis Cardinals, perhaps strengthening his case when he earned the win in Game 1.

Rookie 15-game winner Shelby Miller had also been under consideration. Miller warmed up early in Game 1 and manager Mike Matheny said Saturday he’d be available in the bullpen in Game 2.

Lynn worked the last two innings of the Cardinals’ 3-2, 13-inning victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. He took the loss in Game 2 of the NL division series against the Pittsburgh and has failed pitch five innings in any of his three career postseason starts the last two seasons.

Cardinals Edge Dodgers for 2-0 Lead in NLCS

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Rookie Michael Wacha pitched into the seventh inning with zero margin for error and the St. Louis Cardinals silenced the Los Angeles Dodgers for the second straight day, winning 1-0 Saturday for a 2-0 lead in the NL championship series.

The Cardinals managed only two hits off Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers, but Jon Jay’s sacrifice fly set up by A.J. Ellis’ passed ball in the fifth stood up.

The Dodgers’ scoreless streak in the NLCS reached 19 innings. Rookie fireballer Trevor Rosenthal struck out the side in the ninth with a heater reaching 101 mph, fanning pinch-hitter Andre Ethier on three pitches to end it.

A day after outlasting Los Angeles 3-2 in 13 innings, the Cardinals moved two wins away from the World Series.

Game 3 is Monday at Dodger Stadium, with Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright facing rookie Hyun-Jin Ryu.

Walnut Halloween Haunt is Planned

News

October 12th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

Officials with the City of Walnut say the Walnut Merchants Association will hold a costume swap in conjunction with their Walnut Halloween Haunt, which will take place on Saturday, October 26th, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.  The event is sponsored by McCurdy’s Pumpkins of Atlantic.

The costume swap allows you to unload your old costumes, and if you don’t have one, a costume can be picked up free of charge the night of the Walnut Halloween Haunt. Face painters will also be available to help complete even the most terrifying looks. The swap will be held at the Walnut Public Library. Costumes can be dropped off at any of the following businesses: Frannie’s Attic, Sugar Grove Antiques, Bulldog Antiques, or City Hall.

When you’re all dressed up, enjoy the activities that will be taking place in Walnut’s downtown, including after-hours shopping, trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, and free chili and hot chocolate to keep warm.

If you have your costume ahead of time, post your photo on Walnut’s Facebook page: “Fans of Walnut, Iowa’s Antique City.” The pictures will be collected and a winner will be chosen and announced that night! Prizes will be announced closer to the evening of the event.
