Today (Wednesday) was the deadline to file nomination papers for county office. Nomination papers had to have been filed with the County Auditor by 5-p.m., in order for candidates to be included on the ballot for the Nov. 4th General Election.

In Cass County only two non-partisan offices are short nominees. Both are on the CASS COUNTY AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION COUNCIL. Those who filed their nomination papers by the deadline include:

Edna Township Clerk: Daniel Schrier, of Cumberland; Union Township Clerk: Cheryl R. Christensen, of Cumberland; Edna Township Trustee: Travis Erickson, & Rodney Penton, both of Cumberland; Union Township Trustee: Brent Paulsen, & Daryl Schrier, both of Cumberland.

Hospital Trustee (northwest) – Ned Brown, & Leanne Pellett, both of Atlantic; Hospital Trustee (southwest) – Jerry Putnam, of Griswold; Soil & Water – Frederick W. Kay, & Greg Zellmer, both of Atlantic; County Ag Extension Council – Kristi Plagman, of Cumberland, Todd Weppler, of Lewis, & Brad Pellett, of Atlantic; Gage Zellmer, of Atlantic, & Chad Becker, of Wiota.

Iowan gets 20-60 months for Nebraska thefts

FREMONT, Neb. (AP) – A 53-year-old Iowa man has been imprisoned for stealing dozens of brass vases from an eastern Nebraska cemetery. The Fremont Tribune says Gary Hostetter, of Carter Lake, Iowa, on Monday was given 20 to 60 months. He had pleaded no contest to a theft charge. Dodge County Attorney Oliver Glass has said Hostetter admitted taking 45 vases from Memorial Cemetery in Fremont earlier this year.

Dodge County Jail records say Hostetter remained in custody on Tuesday.

Bluffs man arrested for DWB in Red Oak

A Pottawattamie County man was arrested Tuesday morning on a charge of Driving While Barred. 27-year old Corey Michael Ware, of Council Bluffs, was arrested following a traffic stop at around 9:50-a.m., in Red Oak. Ware was brought to the Montgomery County Jail and held on $2,000 bond.

DANIEL W. CHAPMAN, 15, of Harlan, died Mon., Aug. 25th. Funeral services for DANIEL CHAPMAN will be held 10:30-a.m. Sat., Aug. 30th, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Friends may call at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 3-until 8-p.m. Friday, with the family present from 6-to 8-pm.  And, a Prayer service will held at the church at 8-p.m. on Friday.

Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

DANIEL CHAPMAN is survived by:

His father – Derek (Cora) Chapman, of Harlan.

His mother – Renee Milstead & special friend Wayne Schwartz, of Harlan.

His sisters – Jessika and Britany Chapman, both of Harlan.

His brother – Douglas Chapman, of Harlan.

His step-sisters: Samantha McCool, and Victoria Chapman, both of Harlan.

His step-brother: Christopher Chapman, of Harlan.

His Special friend – Cassandra Lynn Trader, of Defiance.

His grandparents: Gladys Chapman, of Madison, WI; Joyce “MaMaw” Chapman, of Turkey Creek, KY; and Daniel (Maria) Milsted, of Madison, WI.
