An Atlantic woman charged with taking an inappropriate photo of a Salem Lutheran Home resident has entered a plea of guilty to a lesser charge. 35-year old Amanda Sedina had been charged with Invasion of Privacy-Nudity. The State however amended the charge to Simple Assault. As part of the negotiated, voluntary plea of guilty, Sedina today (Monday) was sentenced to 30-days in the Shelby County Jail, with the term suspended. She will serve 6 months informal probation and agreed to pay all court costs and surcharges.

Sedina was arrested in March for allegedly taking an inappropriate picture of a bathing 78-year old female resident at the Salem Lutheran Home, in Elk Horn. The incident was reported to authorities on March 22nd. Administrator John Doughty says Sedina had worked at the skilled nursing facility as a certified nursing assistant. He said Tuesday that she was fired after the incident.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Jamaal Charles and Eric Berry were among half a dozen Kansas City Chiefs who spent most of Monday’s workout standing off to the side during drills. Charles and Berry along with tight end Tony Moeaki tore their left ACLs last season, forcing them to miss most of the year. They’re expected to be 100 percent by training camp, but they were limited during the first of the Chiefs’ organized team activities. The three of them were joined by rookie defensive back DeQuan Menzie, linebacker Brandon Siler and safety Kendrick Lewis in doing rehab work during most of the practice. The only player missing was wide receiver Dwayne Bowe. The Chiefs have until July 16 to sign him to a long-term deal, otherwise he’ll play next season under the franchise tag.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Another mother has surrendered her newborn to the state under Iowa’s safe-haven law. The Iowa Department of Human Services said in a news release Monday that the baby boy was born at an undisclosed Iowa hospital on May 12. The department says it’s the 15th time the state’s safe-haven law has been used since it went into effect in 2001. The law allows unwanted newborns ages 14 days or less to be left at any Iowa health facility with no questions asked. The child has been placed with a foster family that intends to adopt. A court hearing to terminate the birth mother’s parental rights will be held within a month. The state says that in all 14 previous cases, the safe-haven babies have been successfully adopted.
