VAUGHN T. BOWMAN, 53, of Audubon, died Sat., Nov. 3rd, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Rapids. Funeral services for VAUGHN BOWMAN will be held 11-a.m. Tue., Nov. 6th, at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the visitation is open.

Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

VAUGH BOWMAN is survived by:

His parents – Warren & Wilma Bowman, of Audubon.

His sister – Camilla (Howard) Lashe, of Audubon.

Other relatives, and many friends.

Iowa early News Headlines for Sunday, Nov. 4th 2012

Here is the latest Iowa news from The Associated Press

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa has set a record for early voting, reflecting a push by the major political parties to lock in votes from supporters. As for Friday, 613,749 Iowans had voted, already exceeding the 2008 record of 545,000 early votes. About 70 percent of the votes were absentee ballots sent by mail to the voter’s home. They can be returned in person by 9 p.m. Tuesday. If they’re mailed, they must be postmarked by Monday.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — President Barack Obama told voters in Dubuque that he kept his promises to end the war in Iraq and to provide health insurance for millions of citizens. Obama and Romney held dueling rallies yesterday in Dubuque as they made a final push to win Iowa’s six electoral votes in Tuesday’s election.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Two Arizona telemarketers have been ordered by judges in separate cases to stop calling Iowa residents. In the first, a Polk County District Court issued an order Friday to permanently restrain Action Point LLC from soliciting Iowa residents. On October 26th, a different Polk County judge issued an Iowa soliciting ban for America Workshops LLC.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids has announced receiving a $2.1 million donation — the largest single gift in its history. The gift from Dyan and John Smith on behalf of transportation company CRST International will be used to create a new graduate center.

NORMA J. GOSCH, 61, of Elk Horn (& formerly of Harlan), died Sat., Nov. 3rd, in Elk Horn. Funeral services for NORMA GOSCH will be held 10:30-a.m. Tue., Nov. 6th, at the Burmeister-Johannsen Funeral Home in Harlan.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-8pm Mon. (11/5), with the family present to greet friends from 4-5pm.

Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery.

Creston man arrested in Lenox on alcohol and drug charges

The Lenox Police Department reports a Union County man was arrested Friday night. Officials say an officer on routine patrol observed 22-year old Matthew J. Davis, of Creston, relieving himself in the parking lot of the Caseys General Store. When the officer approached Davis, he determined the man was intoxicated. After being placed under arrest for public intoxication, and while patting down Davis, the officer also discovered a small amount of marijuana in Davis’ pocket. Davis was subsequently charged with Possession of Marijuana, and transported to the Taylor County Jail.

The Lenox P-D reports also, 20-year old James Robert Castillo, of Lenox, was arrested at around 7-p.m. on November 1st, for violating his probation.  Castillo was transported to the Taylor County Jail where he was being held without bond pending an appearance before a magistrate.

Coffman leads Indiana past Big Ten foe Iowa 24-21

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) – Cameron Coffman threw for 315 yards on 21 of 33 passing and three touchdowns to lead Indiana on Saturday to a 24-21 win over Big Ten foe Iowa.  Cody Latimer, who had 113 yards on seven receptions for Indiana (4-5, 2-3 Big Ten), caught all three of Coffman’s touchdown passes. James Vandenberg was 21 of 34 for 249 yards passing and a touchdown for Iowa (4-5, 2-3).

Damon Bullock ran for 83 yards on 25 carries for the Hawkeyes, who played without running back Mark Weisman.  The Hawkeyes regained the lead early in the fourth quarter on a Bullock 4-yard touchdown run to give Iowa a 21-17 advantage. But Coffman threw a 31-yard go-ahead touchdown pass to Latimer with 10:58 left to give the Hoosiers a 24-21 lead.

CAROLE RAE BROWN, 63, formerly of Des Moines, died Thu., Nov. 1st, at the Panora Nursing & Rehab Center. Funeral services for CAROLE BROWN will be held 1:30-p.m. Mon., Nov. 5th, at the 1st Christian Church in Panora. Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center has the arrangements.

Visitation, with the family present, is from 9-to 11-am Monday, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Union Cemetery at Guthrie Center.

Ex-Iowa State basketball coach faces new charge

HUMBOLDT, Iowa (AP) – A former Iowa State University basketball coach convicted in 2004 of having child pornography faces a new charge of failing to comply with Iowa Sex Offender Registry rules.  Randy Brown was the Cyclones’ assistant coach in 2003 when he was first charged, and he pleaded guilty the next year to receiving child pornography over the Internet. He was sentenced to two years in federal prison.

The Fort Dodge Messenger reports that the 55-year-old Brown was recently charged with an exclusion zone violation. That law bans convicted sex offenders from working or volunteering any place primarily used by minors.  Prosecutors say Brown taught children at a basketball camp in Humboldt last March.  Brown, of Ames, was released on bond Monday.

N Iowa dominates W Illinois 40-0

MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Sawyer Kollmorgen threw three touchdown passes and the Northern Iowa defense held Western Illinois to just 172 total yards for a 40-0 victory on Saturday. Northern Iowa (3-6, 2-4 Missouri Valley) also rushed for 303 yards. David Johnson picked up 149 with a TD. Northern Iowa’s defense stymied Western Illinois (3-6, 1-5) by coming up with four sacks and picking off two passes, one that was returned by Garrett Scott for a 20-yard TD. Hayden Northern completed 9 of 18 passes for 97 yards to lead Western Illinois, and Jean-Marc Charles recovered a fumble.

Dayton’s 21 2nd-half points holds off Drake 28-13

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Dayton scored 21-second-half points to pull away from defending Pioneer Football League champion Drake in a 28-13 victory on Saturday. Dan Jacob rushed for two touchdowns for the Flyers (5-5, 4-3). Drake (6-3, 5-1) turned the ball over three times in its first league loss this season. The game was tied at 7 at halftime, and Drake trailed 14-13 early in the fourth quarter after Cam Bohnert’s second field goal. Dayton led 21-13 with 9:38 remaining after Robert Washington’s 3-yard run and put it away with a 14-play, 67-yard drive consumed 8 minutes, 19 seconds. Jacob accounted for 41 yards on eight carries, including a third-down run in which he broke three tackles to convert the first down. He scored from the 5 with 1:09 left. Dayton outrushed Drake 118 to 17 and proved more efficient on third down, converting 7 of 15 to Drake’s 3 of 17.
