LOUISE G. DREHER, 90, of Audubon, died Tuesday, Nov. 13th, at the Friendship Home in Audubon. Celebration of life memorial services for LOUISE DREHER will be held 11-a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21st, at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

There is no visitation. 

Burial will be in theMaple GroveCemeteryin Audubon.

LOUISE G. DREHER is survived by: 

Her children: Alan (Nan) Dreher of Kimballton; Alice (Reggy) Welfl of Kennard, NE; Ronnie Dreher of Dresden, OH; Donna (Dick) Cavanaugh of West Valley City, UT 

Her brother: Gordis (Felicitis) Hetrick ofMcAllen,TX. 

Her sister: Norma Jean (Walter) Baker ofStillwater,MN. 

Her brother-and stster in-law: Her dear friend who was like a daughter: Debra Swensen of Audubon and her sons Nathan and Jesse. 

13 grandchildren, along with her great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Transient death investigation in Council Bluffs

Authorities in Council Bluffs are investigating the death of a transient. According to Council Bluffs Police, the body of a 34-year old white male transient was discovered Friday in a hole he was digging in a wooded area just east of the 1600 block of North 15th Street. Officials say it appears the man was digging a hole for shelter or storage of his belongings, when he fell in and became trapped.

An autopsy was scheduled as part of the investigation, but officials say foul play is not suspected. Investigators are withholding the man’s name pending notification of family.

OWI arrest in Montgomery County

Sheriff’s officials in Montgomery County say a Shenandoah man was arrested Friday night in a rural part of the county. 28-year old Kyle Elliott Smith was arrested at 270th Street and K Avenue at around 8:12-p.m., on a charge of Operating a motor vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI)/3rd offense. Smith was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $5,000. bond.

Spirit Lake beats Mediapolis 17-15 for 2A title

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Paul Brown ran for one touchdown and passed for another and Spirit Lake survived five turnovers to beat Mediapolis 17-15 on Friday and win the Class 2A state championship. Brown’s 3-yard TD run gave the Indians (13-1) a 17-7 lead late in the third quarter and they held on against a Mediapolis team playing without star quarterback Jesse Ertz, a Kansas State recruit who was sidelined by a knee injury. Trailing 17-13, Mediapolis (13-1) got the ball on Blake Beckman’s fumble recovery at the Spirit Lake 36 with 2:14 remaining. But Drew Foster, who filled in for Ertz, was intercepted by Tyler Peterson on the next play and Spirit Lake ran out the clock, taking a safety as time expired in Cedar Falls.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — The decision by North Texas-based Hostess Brands to go out of business is being felt in Waterloo. Hostess, the maker of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and other snacks, announced yesterday it would close in response to a nationwide strike. It means the loss of about 18,500 jobs. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports the closure affects 59 workers at the Waterloo plant and about 30 truck drivers.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Google is investing another $200 million in its Council Bluffs data center operations as it invests $75 million in a wind farm in central Iowa. The Des Moines Register says Google announced the additional investment in the data center yesterday at a Statehouse news conference. Google’s investment in Iowa now stands at $1.1 billion.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa economic development officials have approved financial assistance to DuPont Chemical Company/Pioneer for a $50 million expansion project. The Iowa Economic Development Board on Friday agreed to provide the company up to $4.4 million in tax credits. The project will move into Johnston some operations and 100 jobs now in Ankeny. Pioneer will also create 100 new jobs.

Google announces additional major investments in Iowa Total Iowa

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Google is investing another $200 million in its Council Bluffs data center operations as it invests $75 million in a wind farm in central Iowa. Google announced the additional investment in the data center on Friday at a Statehouse news conference. The Mountain View-Calif.-based tech giant has an existing $600 million data center it announced in 2007. In April, Google said it would build a $300 million data center near the existing campus. Friday’s announcement would add $200 million to that new site.

Google said Thursday it was investing $75 million in the Rippey Wind Farm in Greene County as part of its effort to encourage development of cleaner energy sources. Google’s investment in Iowa now stands at $1.1 billion.

Regina beats St. Albert 35-14 for 3rd title

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Mark Ward passed for two touchdowns and a record 297 yards to lead Iowa City Regina to its third consecutive state championship Friday, a 35-14 victory over Council Bluffs St. Albert in the Class 1A title game. Mike Donovan ran for two TDs and Nick Dolezal kicked two field goals for the Regals (14-0), who won their 42nd straight game to match the sixth-longest winning streak in state history. Regina won the Class 2A championship each of the past two years and has four titles overall.

Ward’s 19-yard touchdown pass on a screen to Riley Dixon broke a 14-all tie in the third quarter, and Dolezal kicked fourth-quarter field goals of 32 and 34 yards to secure the victory.
