House Republicans voted this week to repeal the requirement on a state income tax form that parents indicate whether or not their dependent children have health insurance. The bill’s Republican supporters say health insurance has nothing to do with filing an income tax return. But critics say by eliminating this tool, uninsured kids may fall through the cracks.

Sheriff Greg Beaver says that 32-year-old Christopher Servantez of Mason City, was pronounced dead Thursday evening at the Mitchell County Regional Hospital. Beaver says he is awaiting toxicology results to determine what killed Servantez.

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — A Coralville man has been arrested, accused of firing a rifle into a parked car. Police arrested 56-year-old Michael Bell early Thursday morning. Bell faces charges of reckless use of a firearm and second-degree criminal mischief.

News

March 24th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A single ticket sold in New Jersey matched all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing for the $338.3 million Powerball jackpot, lottery officials said. It was the 13th drawing held in the days since a Virginia man won a $217 million jackpot Feb. 6. Thirteen other tickets worth $1 million each matched all but the final Powerball number on Saturday night. Those tickets were sold in New Jersey and 10 other states. Lottery officials said there was also one Power Play Match 5 winner in Iowa.

The New Jersey Lottery said Sunday that details about the winning ticket would be released Monday, declining to reveal where it had been purchased and whether anyone had immediately come forward. It was the sixth largest jackpot in history. The numbers drawn were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31. A lump sum payout would be $221 million.

Lottery officials said the 13 tickets worth $1 million apiece — matching the first five numbers but missing the Powerball — were sold in Arizona, Florida (2), Illinois, Minnesota, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania (2), South Carolina and Virginia.

Gonzaga went 4-0 the past two seasons playing on its home floor at the McCarthey Athletic Center during the NCAAs in reaching the round of 16. DAYTON, Ohio (AP) – Ohio State is preparing for a big game at an arena that has not been kind to the Buckeyes.   Second-seeded Ohio State is one win away from reaching the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament for a fourth straight season, something the Buckeyes have never done in their history. Ohio State (23-11) can pull it off by beating 10th-seeded Iowa State (23-11) at the University of Dayton Arena on Sunday.

The Buckeyes have opened the NCAA tournament in Dayton twice while Thad Matta has been their coach. Both times, they failed to advance. Their challenge Sunday will be to clamp down on the nation’s top 3-point shooting team. The Cyclones were on the mark in an opening drubbing of Notre Dame on Friday night.
