ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jake Westbrook worked seven strong innings and Allen Craig had two RBIs for a lineup that spoiled Jacob Turner’s homecoming early on in the St. Louis Cardinals’ 4-1 victory over the Miami Marlins on Friday night. Matt Holliday doubled twice with an RBI and Edward Mujica rebounded with the save for the Cardinals, who had lost eight of 11 and plummeted from the majors’ best record to second place in the NL Central entering a five-game home stand.

The Marlins totaled three hits and lost for just the third time in 11 games. The hard-throwing Turner (2-1) surrendered four runs on seven hits in six innings. Westbrook (5-3) was hurt only by Logan Morrison’s 440-foot homer to straightaway center leading off the second.

The Council Bluffs Police Department has released additional details about a fatal accident that occurred early this (Friday) morning. Police responded to the scene of the crash in the 200 block of Vets Memorial Highway about one-quarter of a mile west of the Metro Drive intersection at around 1:20-a.m. Officials say a Chevy Astro Van driven by 31-year-old Hilberto Velasquez Ramirez of Nashville, TN,was traveling east in the westbound lanes of traffic, when it collided with the driver’s side of a westbound Chevy Cavalier driven by 18-year-old Brenden Kniesly, of Council Bluffs. Moten was a student at the Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs.
