I-80 expected to be reopened in Council Bluffs

News

October 10th, 2013 by Ric Hanson

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (AP) – The Iowa Transportation Department expects to reopen eastbound Interstate 80 this (Thursday) morning.  District 4 engineer Troy Jerman says the pavement patch should be cured and ready for use by 8 a.m.

Jerman says a portion of the interstate shoulder collapsed about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday as workers were installing a pipe under the roadway. They discovered a void that ran under the eastbound lanes, so they were closed to traffic.

Drivers trying to cross from Nebraska into Iowa had been advised to seek other routes on Thursday. They were directed north to the Interstate 680 or south to the Veterans Memorial Bridge in southern Omaha. Westbound lanes remained in use.

Atlantic XC Invitational is at Country Club Today

Sports

October 10th, 2013 by Jim Field

Atlantic will host its own cross country invitational today at a new site. The meet will be held at the Atlantic Golf and Country Club. Atlantic coach Paul Iekel says they believe the course will set up well for the runners and the spectators. The start/finish area is east of Palm Street on the number 16 fairway and that should give some good views to spectators.

24 teams, both boys and girls are expected for today’s meet. On the boys side, Harlan, St. Albert, Riverside and Tri-Center are among the ranked teams entered. The girls race features ranked teams like Griswold, Harlan and Dallas Center-Grimes.

The school is asking spectators to park on the south side of 22nd Street, the north side of 29th Street and on the east side of Chestnut Street, not in the Country Club parking lot.

The meet begins with the middle school at 4:00 pm. The high school races begin with the JV boys at 4:30pm, followed by the varsity girls, varsity boys and JV girls. Awards should be presented at about 6:30 pm.
