Audubon County man arrested on drug charges Tue. night

An Audubon County man was arrested on drug charges Tuesday, following a traffic stop in Exira. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Department says 20-year old Robert Paul Joens, of Exira, was arrested at around 7:30-p.m. on a felony Possession of Marijuana with the Intent to Deliver, charge.

Joens is being held in the Audubon County Jail. The incident remains under investigation.

DURING THE WINTER IN THE HOME, YOU SHOULD HAVE AVAILABLE EXTRA FOOD, WATER, MEDICINE, BABY ITEMS AND FIRST AID SUPPLIES. HIGH ENERGY FOOD THAT REQUIRES NO COOKING OR REFRIGERATION IS BEST. MAKE SURE CELL PHONES ARE CHARGED, HAVE A BATTERY POWERED RADIO AND/OR TELEVISION, FLASHLIGHTS, LANTERNS AND EXTRA BATTERIES.

MAKE SURE THERE IS AN ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF HEATING FUEL AND HAVE AN EMERGENCY HEATING SOURCE SUCH AS A FIREPLACE, WOOD STOVE OR SPACE HEATER. HAVE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS AND SMOKE DETECTORS AND KEEP THEM IN WORKING ORDER. FIRE DEPARTMENTS MAY HAVE TROUBLE RESPONDING DURING AND AFTER A WINTER STORM.

YOUR VEHICLES SHOULD ALSO BE PREPARED FOR WINTER STORM CONDITIONS. FULLY WINTERIZE AND CHECK YOUR VEHICLE INCLUDING THE BATTERY, HEATING SYSTEM AND BELTS. KEEP THE GAS TANK AS FULL AS POSSIBLE. HAVE A WINTER STORM SURVIVAL KIT IN VEHICLES, INCLUDING BLANKETS, SHOVEL, HIGH CALORIE NON PERISHABLE FOOD, FLASHLIGHT WITH EXTRA BATTERIES, FIRST AID KIT, KNIFE, TOWELS, SAND, TOW ROPE, WINDSHIELD BRUSH AND SCRAPER AND BOOSTER CABLES. HAVE A MEANS OF TWO WAY
COMMUNICATION SUCH AS A CELLPHONE OR CB RADIO.

(Update): 2 dead following crash in Council Bluffs Tue.

In an update to our earlier report, the Council Bluffs Police Department today (Wednesday), said two people died in a crash that occurred Tuesday morning.Authorities identified the victims as 47-year old Wendy Hastie and 50-year old Tammi Murray, both of Council Bluffs.
The women were passengers in a car driven by Damian Morgan, that was hit by a van at the intersection of the South Expressway and Vets Memorial Highway. The accident happened at around 9:45-a.m., Tuesday. Officials say their investigation showed the van driven by Armando Mendez of Council Bluffs was westbound on Vets. A Dodge Intrepid, driven by 31-year old Damian Morgan of Council Bluffs was eastbound, turning north onto South Expressway, when it was hit on the passenger side by the van. Hastie, who was a front seat passenger in the car, died at the scene. Murray, who was sitting in the back seat, died at Creighton University Trauma Center, as a result of the injuries she suffered in the crash. Both drivers suffered minor injuries in the crash. Charges are still pending toxicology results on Morgan.

ALVIN LENGEMANN, 89, of Urbandale (formerly of Coon Rapids), died Tue., Nov. 4th, at home. Graveside funeral services for ALVIN LENGEMANN will be 2-pm Friday, Nov. 7th, at the Coon Rapids Cemetery.  Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids has the arrangements.

Visitation for Alvin Lengemann will be held on Friday from 1 until 2-pm at the funeral home.

Archery /hunting equipment stolen in Creston

A Creston man reported to police Sunday the theft of numerous pieces of archery equipment. In a report issued today (Wednesday), the Creston P-D said a resident in the 700 block of north Poplar Street in Creston told authorities someone had stolen a Mathews Switch XT compound bow, arrows, accessories and a hard bow case. The items were taken from the victim’s pickup truck.

The loss was estimated at $1,050.
