Cass & Adair Board of Supervisors – meeting previews

The Cass and Adair County Boards of Supervisors are set to hold their regular, weekly meetings Wednesday, in Atlantic and Greenfield, respectively. In Atlantic, the Cass Supervisors meet at 8:30-a.m., and will act on: A Child Abuse Prevention Council request to proclaim the month of April as “Child Abuse Prevention Month” in Cass County; A contract with Medivac Ambulance for services covering July 1st 2015 through June 30th, 2020; and a 28-E agreement for Juvenile Emergency Services.

The Supervisors will also act on contracts for a bridge replacement and bridge project materials, along with proposals for the replacement of the courthouse telephone system, and approving the securing of a loan for communications equipment requested by the Public Safety Communications Commission. In other business, the Board will meet with representatives of Carlson-West-Povandra Architects, and Morrissey Engineering, with regard to heating in the new Communications Center.

In Greenfield, the Adair County Board of Supervisors will meet at 9-a.m. They’ll discuss and/or act on an Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) Tax Control Program; Township Clerk Wages; a Courtyard Use Permit, and a Transfer Resolution. They’ll also receive updates on the Manure Management Plan (MMP) and the Matura Action County FY 2014 Audit Report.

STEP results in Guthrie County

The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Monday, released details about the Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) that took place March 13th to 17th, during the St. Patrick’s Day Holiday period. Officials say there was one citation issued for OWI which resulted in an arrest, and one warning issued, where a person was tested but not arrested, for OWI. Six warnings were given for seat belts violations, plus four warnings and one citation for Child Restraint violations. There was also 154 warnings for Speeders and five citations issued.

Authorities say one arrest warrant was served, one narcotics arrest made, and one canine search or interdiction. In addition, six accidents were investigated, and eight motorists assisted.

Statewide results for the STEP are not yet available. The next Special Traffic Enforcement Program statewide is slated to take place May 18th through the 31st.

  • 1 package refrigerator crescent rolls
  • 1 lb. sausage, browned & drained
  • 1 cup frozen hash brown potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons Parmesan cheese

Separate crescent rolls and pres into buttered 9 x 12 inch pan.  Brown sausage and spoon over the crust.  Add hash browns over this.  Add 1 cup shredded cheese.  Beat eggs, salt and pepper, milk and Parmesan cheese.  Pour over all.  Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes, until eggs are set.  Do not over bake.  Serve with fresh fruits.

Teens fiddling w/her radio causes chain-reaction accident in Clarinda

The Clarinda Police Department says no injuries were reported following a chain-reaction collision Monday afternoon. Police Chief Keith Brothers says a 1992 Ford Ranger pickup driven by 17-year old Elijah Bix, of Coin, was stopped at the intersection of 16th and Division Streets at around 3:20-p.m., waiting for a vehicle to turn left. A 2002 Buick Rendezvous SUV driven by 16-year old Marcus Middleton, of Nodaway, was behind the pickup. A 2000 Dodge Intrepid driven by 17-year old Madison Nothwehr, of Clarinda, approached the intersection from the north traveling southbound and told police she “Was messing around with her radio,” and didn’t see the vehicles in front of her had stopped.

The teen hit the brakes and skidded for about 15-feet before her vehicle slammed into the SUV, which was shoved into the rear of the pickup. Nothwehr was cited for Following too Closely. Damage from the pile-up amounted to $5,500.

Creston Police trying to get to the bottom of TP theft

Police in Creston are investigating the theft of toilet paper. The Hy-Vee Store in Creston reported to authorities that someone stole five packages of Charmin toilet paper sometime between 6:25-and 6:30-p.m., Sunday. The loss was estimated at $45.

And, a Creston resident reported to police on Friday, that a license plate was stolen from his moped sometime between March 18th and 20th, while the vehicle was parked at his residence in the 300 block of North Sycamore Street. Both incidents remain under investigation.
