Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara is confident the Hawkeye offense will make progress. Iowa is coming off a 31-0 loss at Penn State in which the Hawkeyes managed only four first downs. Through four games they are ranked next to last in the country in total offense.
McNamara says the Hawkeyes have shifted their focus to Saturday’s game at home against Michigan State.
McNamara delivered an impassioned speech to the team following the loss at Penn State.

SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS
SERIES HISTORY – PURDUE
Iowa leads the all-time series, 10-7-5. The teams tied, 2-2, last season in Iowa City. That contest was one of just three times since the 2017 that Iowa did not win a game in which it scored multiple goals.
SCOUTING THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
SERIES HISTORY – RUTGERS
Iowa trails Rutgers, 3-7-0, in the all-time series. Iowa’s last win over the Scarlet Knights came on Oct. 15, 2017, at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The Hawkeyes shutout No. 23 Rutgers that day, 1-0.
PINK GAME
Fans are encouraged to join the Hawkeyes in wearing pink on Sunday to promote awareness for breast cancer. Pink pom poms will be distributed to fans at the Iowa Soccer Complex.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says there is no magic formula to fix Iowa’s offense. The Hawkeyes laid a goose egg in a 31-0 loss at sixth ranked Penn State and the offense has become a national laughingstock.
Ferentz says there are no plans to shake up the coaching staff or change the play caller.
Ferentz says bouncing back this week against Michigan State begins with the coaches.
Ferentz says there were no bright spots at Penn State.
Ferentz says they would like to get the wide receivers more involved in the offense. wideouts have been targeted only 35 times in four games and only four times last week.
Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says the Cyclones need to be ready to face a confident Oklahoma team on Saturday night. After struggling to a 6-7 record in Brent Venables first season as head coach the Sooners are 4-0 and ranked 14th nationally.
Communication will be a key. The offense will need to operate in a loud stadium and the defense will need to handle the Sooners’ fast paced offense.
Defense has been a key to OU’s rise this season. After giving up 30 points per game a year ago the Sooners are yielding less than nine per game.
Campbell says there has been an influx of talent and added experience.
(Radio Iowa) – A leader in the union that represents 19-thousand federal employees who work in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota and the Dakotas says some of them will be required to work, without pay, if there’s a federal government shutdown. Ruark Hotopp is a national vice president of the American Federation of Government Employees. “TSA employees would still go to work during a shutdown, however,” Hotopp says, “without a paycheck.” Hotopp joined an online news conference organized by the Iowa Democratic Party.
“In our union, we had many discussions with a lot of federal lawmakers up on Capitol Hill,” Hotopp says. “The indication we had as of a month ago was that there was going to be a deal struck amongst House Republicans to avert this, only for them to then renege on that deal and to come back and hold us all hostage with the threat of a shutdown.” Hotopp says a shutdown would bring the country to a screeching halt.
“I don’t know that folks really realize how many government agencies really exist and what they all do,” Hotopp says. “…We run the full gamut of law enforcement agencies, agriculture — you name it.” Some U-S-D-A employees are represented by Hotopp’s union, but the U-S-D-A would shut down — with the exception of critical functions, like fire fighters in the U-S Forest Service who protect property.
