The ACGC Chargers had a very similar start to the girls on the night as they would jump to a fast start fueled by a 2-1-2 full court press that allowed the Chargers to race out to a 10-2 lead just a minute into the game. The Chargers would have a 27-9 lead going into the second quarter where senior leader for the Chargers Lance Bunde exploded offensively. Bunde got it going from all three levels on the floor by taking it strong to the basket, using a couple nice shot fakes into his one dribble pull up, and of course hitting two long balls in the quarter. Bunde closed the first half by hitting two free throws, forcing a steal with less than five seconds remaining, and racing into the front court where he hit a 26-foot three pointer to take a 42-20 lead into the halftime break.

But the Vikings would not just quit as the came out firing on all cylinders in the third quarter as Luke Strenberg put the whole offense on his back to start and scored 16 of his 22 points in the third quarter and the Vikings even cut the Chargers lead all the way down to 11. But Noah Kading would stop any momentum the Vikings had when he converted on a four-point play and pushed the lead right back to 15 and allowed the Chargers to breathe a little easier. Head Coach of the ACGC Chargers Nick Kading said he knew that AHSTW was a very scrappy team.

The Chargers would go on to a hard fought 65-46 win on the road over the Vikings. Head Coach Nick Kading said the Chargers like to play fast but some of their early shots in the shot clock helped lead into the Vikings making a little come back in the third and fourth quarters.

The Chargers now improve to 4-1 on the season as the Vikings fall to 2-3.

The ACGC Chargers jumped all over the Lady Vikes from the opening tip and never let up. Not even two minutes the Chargers led quickly 10-0 by their defense forcing three straight steals for layups. The Chargers would have their best quarter of the season so far as they put 30 points and held a 20-point advantage. The turnover bug caught the Lady Vikes in the first half as they had 15 in the first 16 minutes of action and could just never recover. Head Coach of the Chargers Brad Baudler said getting off to quick starts has been an emphasis on this team early in the season.

The Lady Vikes would pick up the scoring in the second to keep the game competitive as seniors Ella Langer and Delaney Goshhorn both went over their season average with both girls scoring 15+ as Langer posted a season high 18 points and Goshhorn was able to find her jump shot as she tallied four triples on the night, but the Lady Vikes could not keep up with the outstanding post work by Chargers sophomore Camdyn Richter. Richter owned the paint on both ends of the floor posting a double-double and scoring a game 19 points most of which came with the left hand off great footwork in the low post. The Lady Vikes would have their best quarter of the night in the fourth and final quarter when they outscored the Chargers 5 points. Coach Baulder said he had been waiting for Richter to have a big night offensively.

With the loss the Lady Vikes three game win streak comes to an end as the Lady Vikes fall to 3-3 on the season. The Chargers improve to 4-1 and winners of back-to-back games.

ST. LOUIS, MO., December 11, 2023–The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have finalized their Major League coaching staff for the upcoming 2024 season, with two new additions announced, along with 10 returning coaches, and Oliver Marmol, who will be entering his third season as the Redbirds manager.

New additions to the staff for 2024 will be former Cardinals pitcher Dean Kiekhefer as Assistant Pitching Coach and Daniel “DC” MacLea as Major League Coordinator of Technology & Systems.  The Cardinals announced Daniel Descalso as their new Bench Coach late last month.

Returning to the staff in their same roles next season will be Dusty Blake as Pitching Coach, Turner Ward as Hitting Coach, Brandon Allen as Assistant Hitting Coach, Julio Rangel as Assistant Pitching Coach/Bullpen, Patrick “Packy” Elkins (Game Day Planning Coach), Stubby Clapp (1^st Base), Ron “Pop” Warner (3^rd Base), Willie McGee (Coach), Jamie Pogue (Assistant Coach/Bullpen Coach) and Kleininger Teran (Bullpen Catcher).

Kiekhefer, 34, was drafted by the Cardinals in 2010 out of the University of Louisville and pitched in 26 games for St. Louis in 2016.  The lefty reliever also pitched for the Oakland A’s in 2018.  He first joined the Cardinals minor league staff in December of 2019 when he was hired as the Pitching Coach for State College (A) before the pandemic cancelled the 2020 minor league season.  Kiekhefer was the Pitching Coach for Palm Beach (A) in 2021, and served as Assistant Pitching Coordinator for Player Development in 2022 and 2023.

MacLea has been a member of the Cardinals organization since 2018. He was the Technology Integration Coordinator for Player Development in 2022 & 2023, and served as a Performance Specialist from 2018 to 2021.

Wartburg football coach Chris Winter says he is proud of the senior class and what they were able to do for the program. The Knights lost at home to defending national champion North Central of Illinois 34-27 in the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III playoff semifinals. It was their second straight heartbreaking loss in the semis.

Wartburg was looking for its first trip to the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl to play for the national title.

It capped a 13-1 season for the Knights.

The Riverside Bulldogs are having a solid start to the season, going 4-1 through their first five games. In the Bulldogs most recent matchup against Missouri Valley last Friday, they came away with a scrappy 66-61 win. Riverside Head Coach Nick Kroon was happy with how his team responded to adversity.

A key part to Riversides success early on in the season has been the offensive output from Grady Jeppesen. Jeppesen currently leads the team with 142 points, averaging 28 per game, and rebounds with 37. Coach Kroon has been impressed by Jeppesen’s effort over the years.

Yet, Jeppesen isn’t the only Bulldog earning praise and making an impact on his team. Other players are stepping up like Mason McCready. Last Friday he had 15 points against the Big Reds. Through five games McCready has 16 boards, 14 assists, and 6 steals.

Riverside’s next matchup is on the road against the 1-4 Audubon Wheelers Tuesday night. Coach Kroon is aware of the challenge that Wheeler senior forward Edward Miller poses. Miller averages 13 points and 8 rebounds per game.

The game will be streamed on KJANTV with the pregame beginning at 7:20 p.m.

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa National Player of the Year candidate, Caitlin Clark, earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors the conference office announced on Monday.

This marks Clark’s 21st weekly award from the conference, which is second-most in conference history behind UI’s Megan Gustafson. She garnered weekly honors six times last season and for the third time this season.

Clark led Iowa to a pair of road wins against Iowa State and Wisconsin. She eclipsed 3,000 points against Iowa State on Wednesday and added to her prowess by surpassing Maya Moore and Elena Delle Donne to be top-10 on the NCAA’s all-time scoring list.

PLAYER NOTES

– Against the Cyclones, she registered a game-high 35 points, nine rebounds, and five assists.

– Over the last 25 seasons, no one has recorded more 30+ points games than Clark (41).

– Against Wisconsin she had a game-high 28 points (11-19 FG), nine rebounds, and five assists to lead Iowa to its seventh 20-point victory of the season.

– Clark has scored 20 or more points in 96 of her 111 career games at the University of Iowa, which is the most in school history.

– Clark has netted a 3-point basket in 69 consecutive games which is an NCAA best.

– Clark notched her 46th & 47th career game with 25+ points, 5+ assists, 5+ rebounds. (NCAA record)
