Adair County arrest report

The Adair County Sheriff’s Office released their weekly arrest report on Monday.

On Wednesday, August 19th at 4:18pm officers arrested 39-year-old Clinton Troy Hostetler of Stuart for Theft in the 5th Degree, Burglary 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief, and Trespass-Injury/Damage greater than $200.  Hostetler was later released on $5,000 bond.

Also on Wednesday, August 19th Adair County Sheriff’s Officials arrested 39-year-old Marc Edward Ernst of Bridgewater for Forgery, Credit Card Fraud, and Driving Under Suspension.  He was later released on $5,000 bond.

Greenfield Police arrested 47-year-old Paula Kay Pelkey of Greenfield at 9:49pm Wednesday, August 19th.  Pelkey was charged with Going Armed with Intent, and Assault on a Peace Officer.  Pelkey was later released on own recognizance.

On Friday, August 21st Stuart Police arrested 23-year-old Gideon Lee Corbett of Dexter at 2:51pm in the 100 block of NW 2nd Street in Stuart.  Corbett was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Child Endangerment.  Corbett was taken into custody and held on $100,000 bond.

On Sunday, August 23rd at 2:25am Adair County Sheriff’s Officials arrested 32-year-old Nicholas George Harvalis of Greenfield in the 2800 block of Bridgewater Road.  Harvalis was charged Harassment of a Public Official and later released on $300 bond.

Finally on Sunday, August 23rd at 3:00am Adair County Sheriff’s Officials arrested 25-year-old Colleen Nicole Denton of Fontanelle in the 2800 block of Bridgewater Road.  Denton was charged with Driving Under Suspension and was later released on $300 bond.

Exira-EHK School Board to meet tonight

The Exira-EHK School board will meet this evening at 7:00pm in the Family Consumer Science Room at the High School in Elk Horn.  The agenda includes multiple reports and review of multiple contracts.  Action items include approval of a 2nd reading of revised board policies, approval of a bid for bread for the school year, approval of revised FFA trip, approving leadership payroll transfer, and consideration of general funding allocation for PBIS purchases.

Atlantic School Board candidate forum to be held Tuesday

7 candidates are running for three open spots on the Atlantic School Board and the public will be given the opportunity to hear from them on Tuesday night.  A candidate forum is set for 7:00pm Tuesday, August 25th at the Atlantic High School Auditorium.

The seven candidates are: Doug Bierbaum, Alison Bruckner, Bob Drogo, Mark Foegen, Dennis Schwanke, Dr. Keith Swanson, and Jenny Williams.

The public will have the opportunity to ask questions at the forum.

LYLE BORKOWSKI, 67, of Manning died Sunday, August 23rd at Manning Regional Healthcare Center. Funeral Services for LYLE BORKOWSKI will be held Friday, August 28th at 10:30am at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Ohde Funeral Home in Manning has the arrangements.

Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning on Thursday, August 27th from 3:00pm-7:00pm.  Visitation will resume at 9:30am Friday at the Church prior to services.

LYLE BORKOWSKI is survived by:

Wife: Marlene Borkowski of Manning.

Daughters: Kari (Rob) Deal of Ames.  Amy Borkowski of Ankeny

Siblings: Janice (Bruce) Artherholt of Red Oak.  Lenus (Kristie) Borkowski of Manning. JoAnn (Roger) Musfeldt of Omaha.

No injuries after shots fired in Council Bluffs early Monday

No one was injured after shots were fired during an incident in Council Bluffs early Monday morning.  The Council Bluffs Police are investigating after officers responded to a report of shots fired at approximately 12:47am at 535 East Broadway in
Council Bluffs. Upon officers’ arrival at the scene which is a Walgreen’s store, they were informed that a white Ford Focus, leaving the scene was involved in the incident.

Officers were able to make a traffic stop on the vehicle at the intersection of State St. and East Pierce St. at 12:51am. In Interviewing the two subjects at the scene, it was determined that the passenger in the Ford Focus, was the target of the shooting.

A witness who was buying groceries in the store said an unknown individual followed them out of the store and got into a dark colored SUV in the parking lot. At that time, the driver of the dark colored SUV, exclaimed the victim had “mean mugged” his friend inside the store. As the victim exited the store, the driver of the dark colored SUV, fired a shot at the victim with an unknown firearm as he left the store. The suspect fled the scene in the dark colored SUV and has not been located at this time.

No injuries were reported by the victim. There is video of the incident and this case will be followed up by the Criminal Investigation Division. The victim’s name
is not being released as this is an ongoing investigation.

Two OWI arrests in Creston over the weekend

The Creston Police Department reports two Operating While Intoxicated arrests over the weekend.

On Friday, August 21st at 9:45pm Officers arrested 22-year-old Jacob Dobb of Creston on Highway 34 for OWI 2nd Offense and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  He was later released from the Union County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

Then early Sunday morning at 5:16am Officers arrested 19-year-old Dallon Grinder of Creston was arrested at 608 Wyoming Street and charged with OWI 1st Offense.  Grinder was later released from the Union County Jail on a $1,000 bond.

Trailer tire causes accident in Creston

Creston PD reports an accident involving two vehicles on Friday night at 8:25pm.  A 2001 Honda Odyssey Van driven by a Glenwood man was traveling south bound on New York Avenue in Creston when a Dodge Truck pulling a trailer traveling in the same direction had a tire fall of the trailer.  The tire rolled into the lane of the van and struck it in the front bumper area.  The truck and trailer were owned by a Shannon City, IA man and conditions were rainy during the accident. A damage estimate was not able to be obtained due to previous damage to the van from another accident.  The Glenwood man suffered possible injuries as the result of the accident.

MARY ANN SHIMA, 78, of Audubon died Saturday, August 22nd at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital in Audubon.  Mass of Christian Burial for MARY ANN SHIMA will be held Thursday, August 27th at 10:30am in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Audubon. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangments.

Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery South of Audubon.

Family visitation will be held Wednesday, August 26th at 6:00pm at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

MARY ANN SHIMA is survived by:

Husband: William J. Shima of Audubon.

Children: Laura (Rich) Pross of Audubon.  Joc (Shelly) Shima of Madera, CA.  Jim (Lisa) Shima of Storm Lake.

Daughter-in-law: Sandy Shima of San Clemente, CA.
