Six employees at five separate businesses received criminal citations for selling alcohol to minors, last week. Officials with the Southwest Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force (SWINE) report the citations were issued as part of an undercover operation conducted at a total of eight businesses in Council Bluffs, on Friday, June 3rd.

Cited for selling alcohol to persons under the age of 21, was: Jenni Null, an employee of Sugars Lounge; Michaela Hotz, an employee of the German Beer Haus; Main Street Tavern employee Brenda Donaldson; Do Rock Inn employees Derek Rodwell and Shelly Biggs; and, J-&-B’s Lounge employee Matthew Way.

Those businesses which were in compliance, and whose employees refused the sale of alcohol to minors, were the Venue, Salty Dog Bar & Grill, and Goofy’s Corner, all in Council Bluffs.

The undercover operation was conducted with the assistance of both an 18-year old female and male. Officials say the compliance checks will continue on an unannounced basis in the near future.

Central Iowa county to weigh anti-nudity proposal

News

June 7th, 2011 by Ric Hanson

ADEL, Iowa (AP) – Tubing or sunbathing along central Iowa’s Raccoon River in the nude could soon be against county law.

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors is scheduled Tuesday (today) to consider a new ordinance that would ban nudity in county areas accessible to the public. Board chairman Kim Chapman told The Des Moines Register that county officials have gotten complaints about nudity on the river. Sheriff Chad Leonard asked for the item to be placed on the board agenda.

Harold Wells operates the Raccoon River Retreat Center near Van Meter. He says his guests occasionally sunbathe nude on a nearby sandbar. Wells says people who live along rivers have always stripped occasionally, adding, “I don’t know why there should be an ordinance now.”
