Atlantic Parks and Rec meeting to be held Monday

The City of Atlantic’s Parks and Recreation Department Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Monday evening in the City Council’s Chambers at City Hall. During the 5:15-p.m. session, the Board will receive a presentation by DNR Fisheries Biologist Brian Hayes with regard to the Schildberg Recreation Area (SRA) lake #1 fishery development.

The Parks and Rec Board will also discuss the tobacco free policy for Sunnyside Park. During their meeting last month, the Board agreed to draw up an ordinance banning tobacco use in covered picnic shelters, the playground, Skate Park and all courts including the Tennis and basketball courts. The ordinance was set to be sent to the City Attorney for review.

The Board will also hear updates on the SRA campground progress and Kiosk glass replacement. Replacement glass for the the kiosk, which was damaged by vandals, is being donated by Atlantic Glass Co. owners Jericho Schmidt and Terry Keegan. It was installed earlier this month. The Board will also receive updates on the: Sunnyside Tennis Courts; Park Maintenance Building; Boat ramp, and Bike Racks Projects

LEONA SEIDL, 93, of Coon Rapids, died Sat., Oct. 19th, at Thomas Rest Haven in Coon Raids. A Mass of Christian Burial service for LEONA SEIDL will be held 10:30-a.m. Thu., Oct. 24th, at the Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids. Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3:30-p.m. Wed., Oct. 23rd, where there will be a rosary at 7-p.m. and a prayer service at 7-p.m. Visitation will resume 9:30-a.m. Thu., at the Annunciation Church in Coon Rapids.

Burial will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery near Dedham.

LEONA SEIDL is survived by her:

Sons – Dave (Faye) Seidl, Dan (Diane) Seidl, and Dale (Sue) Seidl, all of Coon Rapids.

Her brother – Edmund (LaVonne) Berger, of Lidderdale.

Her sisters – Bernice Bluml, of Carroll, & Frances (Albert) Meiners, of Coon Rapids.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 3-p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 22nd). Visitation will then resume at the church on Wed., from 9:30-a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be in the Nishnabotna Cemetery near Manilla.

DANIEL JOESPH SHEEDER, 54, of Guthrie Center, died Fri., Oct. 18th, near Bartlett. Funeral services for DANIEL SHEEDER will be held this Friday (Oct. 25th) at 2-p.m. , at the 1st United Methodist Church in Guthrie Center. Twigg Funeral Home in Guthrie Center has the arrangements.

Visitation at the funeral home will be held from 6-to 8-pm Thu., Oct. 24th, with the family present from 6-to 8-p.m.

2 people stabbed in Council Bluffs

An official with the Council Bluffs Police Department said 2 people were stabbed early Sunday morning during a disturbance in the 100 block of west Broadway Street. Police Sgt. Dave Dawson  said responding officers found Oral White and Brian Ferguson on the sidewalk at around 1:50-a.m.

Ferguson had suffered a cut to his face, while White was stabbed in his neck and shoulder. Both men were transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

Dawson says a suspect has been identified in connection with the incident, and charges are pending. Numerous people were in the area at the time of the assault. Anyone who witnessed the incident are asked to contact the Council Bluffs Police Department at 712-328-4728.

Missing child from Griswold found safe

Authorities in Griswold were about to engage in a search for a missing child this morning, but she was found safe. The Cass County Communications Center dispatched Griswold Fire and Rescue at around 7:30-a.m. to help find the missing 2-year old female, who was discovered missing at around 5:30-a.m.  She was wearing only pajamas. As the search, which also involved deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Department began, a resident in the 200 block of Whitney Street found the girl and the parents were notified by authorities.
