Former UNLV star Dejean-Jones commits to ISU

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) – Former UNLV star Bryce Dejean-Jones says he’ll play his final season at Iowa State.  Dejean-Jones, a shooting guard who led the Runnin’ Rebels with 13.6 points a game last season, told The Associated Press in a phone interview on Sunday that he decided Iowa State was the right fit after visiting Ames over the weekend.

Dejean-Jones says he’s on track to graduate in May, which means he should be eligible to play as a senior for Iowa State next season. The Cyclones landed point guard DeAndre Kane last spring under similar circumstances. Kane earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and helped lead Iowa State to the Sweet 16. Dejean-Jones says he picked the Cyclones over Arizona State.

Cubs recall RHP Blake Parker

ST. LOUIS (AP) – The Chicago Cubs recalled right-hander Blake Parker from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. Parker did not allow a run in three outings with Iowa. He recorded one save. Chicago sent down left-hander Chris Rusin, who allowed one run in five innings.  Parker was 1-2 with a 2.72 ERA in 49 appearances last season with Chicago.

Carpenter, Wacha lead Cardinals over Cubs 6-4

ST. LOUIS (AP) – Matt Carpenter drove in three runs, leading Michael Wacha and the St. Louis Cardinals over the Chicago Cubs 6-4 Sunday. The Cardinals took two of three from the Cubs. Chicago has lost three of four overall. Carpenter hit a two-run single in the second inning and added a sacrifice fly in the fourth that put St. Louis ahead to stay at 4-3.

Wacha allowed three runs and five hits in 6 1-3 innings. He gave up a two-run homer to Anthony Rizzo on his 16th pitch of the game.  Wacha struck out eight and walked one. Trevor Rosenthal gave up a run in the ninth, but retired Luis Valbuena and Emilio Bonifacio with the trying runs on base to pick up his fourth save in as many opportunities.  Edwin Jackson allowed four runs and eight hits in six innings.

Non-injury accident in Red Oak, Saturday

Authorities in Montgomery County say no injuries were reported following a collision Saturday morning, in Red Oak. Officials say a 2003 Chrysler van driven by 83-year old Paul Russell, of Red Oak, was traveling west on East Reed Street at around 8:50-a.m., when it was hit by a 2009 Chevy Impala that was headed north on North 2nd Street. The driver of the car, 23-year old Patrick Hall, of Red Oak, was cited for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.

Damage from the crash amounted to $3,300.
