Grilled Pizza (8-2-14)

Family Fun in the Kitchen

August 2nd, 2014 by Jim Field

Ingredients:
Pizza dough: homemade, box mix, Pillsbury refrigerated, or ready made
Toppings of your choice: cooked/grilled veggies such as peppers, onion, mushrooms, spinach; cooked meat; sauce; cheese
Olive oil to coat dough
Instructions:
Roll out dough. Cut or shape into individual size pizzas-easier to handle on the grill and allows varied toppings. Coat with olive oil. This side becomes the top. Flip onto grill heated to medium. Close lid. Let pizza grill until bottom is just barely cooked about 1 to 3 minutes. You will see it get bubbly and rising. Every grill is different so depending on yours and how long you preheated it, the time varies. Use tongs or spatula to flip the pizza over. Move it to indirect heat or to a tray off the grill. Quickly add toppings. Grill until toppings are warmed through and cheese is melted about 3 minutes.

The first time may be an experiment, but you will want to make this yummy, easy, quick, fun food again. Any leftovers? Refrigerate of freeze.

A grilling pan or screen is necessary to prevent small items falling through the grill bars. Pizza dough may be placed directly on the grill.

Toss greens and/or veggies with olive oil, lemon juice, salt or other seasonings. Use medium heat. Some veggies require longer cooking time so cut them into smaller pieces when cooking a mixture. May take 10 or more minutes. Grill greens separately as only several minutes are required. Turn after a minute or so.

2014 Iowa Hunting Seasons Released

Ag/Outdoor, News, Sports

August 2nd, 2014 by Ric Hanson

Iowa deer hunters will notice fewer seasons and changes in certain seasons this year. Officials with the Iowa DNR say the January antlerless deer season has been eliminated, the number of antlerless deer tags has been reduced and hunters in 27 northwest counties are allowed only antlered deer during the first shotgun and early muzzleloader seasons. Crossbows were allowed as a legal method of take for resident Iowa hunters during the late muzzleloader season.

Iowa waterfowl hunters have an experimental September teal only season from Sept. 6-21 in all three waterfowl zones. The remaining waterfowl seasons will be set during the August 14 meeting of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Natural Resource Commission after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service issues their season requirements to the states.

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) – Brady Schnell shot a 13-under 59 on Friday in the ATB Financial Classic, holing out from 122 yards for eagle on the par-4 ninth hole to become the second player in PGA Tour Canada history to break 60.

The 29-year-old Schnell, a former University of Nebraska player from Milford, Iowa, used a 52-degree gap wedge on the final hole at Sirocco Golf Club. He fell a stroke short of the tour record of 58 set by Jason Bohn on a par-71 course in the 2001 Bayer Championship.

Schnell opened with a 71. He was tied for third – two strokes behind leader Brock Mackenzie – at 14 under.

Mackenzie followed his opening 65 with a 63.

Elliott looking to maintain NASCAR Nationwide lead

Sports

August 2nd, 2014 by Ric Hanson

NEWTON, Iowa (AP) – Chase Elliott is in the midst of one of the best rookie seasons in NASCAR Nationwide series history. The race Saturday at the Iowa Speedway could go a long way in determining whether Elliott ends such a promising year with a title.

Though Elliott has three wins in 19 races this season, his points lead has been reduced to just four heading into this weekend in Iowa. Elliott has finished outside the top five in four of his last five races. This week he learned that his crew chief, Greg Ives, is leaving to fill the same position on Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Sprint Cup team in 2015.

Elliott says he isn’t worried the impending departure of Ives will be a distraction to the No. 9 team, which remains on track to make Elliott the first rookie to win a NASCAR series title.
