Creston teens referred to Juvie authorities on drug charges

Two teens from Creston were referred to Juvenile Authorities over the weekend, after they were allegedly found to be in Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Publicly Intoxicated, Saturday. 16-year old Dean William Mongar and 15-year old Issac Jade Davis were subsequently released to the custody of their parent.

And, a Creston woman reported to Creston Police, Saturday, that sometime between 9-a.m. Friday and 3:30-p.m. Saturday, someone entered her home in the 1000 block of Crest Drive, and stole a 42″ Vizio tv, a safe, and a prescription. The loss was estimated at $800.

Last year on this date we reached 34 for a High and 15 was the low. The All-time Record High in Atlantic on this date was 65 in 1893 & 1984, while the Record Low was -25 in 1924.

Man sought on Iowa, South Dakota warrants nabbed in Nebraska

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (AP) – A man wanted on Iowa and South Dakota warrants has been arrested in northeast Nebraska. Authorities say 19-year-old Zachary Frye, of Sioux City, was arrested Saturday afternoon in South Sioux City after a chase that began in Woodbury County, Iowa. The passenger in the vehicle told police he pulled the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The passenger was not arrested.

Charges against Frye include felony eluding, willful reckless driving and several drug counts.

LEE M. THOMPSON, 83, of Exira died Saturday, December 26th at Atlantic Specialty Care. Services for LEE THOMPSON will be held on Saturday, January 2nd at 2:00 pm at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Adair County Sheriff’s report 12/28/15

Adair County Sheriff Jeff Vandewater, today (Monday) issued a report on recent arrests. Vandewater says 23-year old Taylor Florencia Kraus, of Greenfield, was arrested Dec. 20th by Greenfield Police, for Public Intoxication and Open Container, after he was allegedly found to be in possession of beer while standing in the parking lot of the Shopko Store, in Greenfield. Kraus was later released from custody on $300 bond.

And, on Dec. 22nd, an Adair County Sheriff’s Deputy arrested 56-year old Deborah Mae Warrior, of Fontanelle, on a warrant for Theft in the 2nd Degree. Her bond was set at $5,000.

MEDIAPOLIS, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say 131 piglets and 10 sows were killed in a fire at a southeast Iowa hog confinement. The Hawk Eye in Burlington reports that the blaze at the Nelson Brothers Farm northeast of Mediapolis was caused by a shorted-out exhaust. Firefighters were called to the confinement around 2:45 p.m. Thursday and extinguished the blaze within minutes.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Iowa trucking industry officials say their business isn’t exactly smooth these days, but they don’t seem to be facing as many potholes. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that lower fuel prices have served as both a bane and a boon for the trucking business. Waterloo native Bob Costello, chief economist at the Arlington, Virginia-based American Trucking Association, says the industry also faces a driver shortage.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Waterloo’s city council is considering a policy that would allow public reprimands for members who leak information discussed in confidential closed sessions. The Courier reports that Ward 3 Councilman Pat Morrissey is asking his colleagues to adopt the policy he developed to deal with elected officials who talk about the discussions that take place during legally closed executive sessions.

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa prison inmate has died in a hospice care unit. The Iowa Department of Corrections says 65-year-old Dennis Duane Richards died Friday at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville. A prison spokesman says Richards died of natural causes related to throat cancer.

Snow Emergency in Clarinda

Clarinda Police Chief Keith Brothers is advising that the City of Clarinda will declare a snow emergency as soon as 2 inches of snow/ice accumulate at which time NO PARKING will be allowed on ANY PUBLIC STREET. The snow emergency will remain in effect until the snow/ice ceases and all public streets have been cleared and plowed from curb to curb.
