LE MARS, Iowa (AP) — A sentencing date has been set for an Akron man found guilty in the death of his mother. The Sioux City Journal reports that on Tuesday, a judge scheduled Jonathan Neunaber’s sentencing hearing for March 28 in Plymouth County District Court. Neunaber had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and willful injury as part of a plea agreement.
Neunaber had previously been charged with first-degree murder in the beating death of his 80-year-old mother, Esther Neunaber. Her body and the body of her husband Donald Neunaber were found July 2014 in the home they shared with their son.
Neunaber admitted in court that he killed his mother with a steel pipe. Donald Neunaber died of natural causes.
