Lost trucker gets stuck off Hwy 173

News

May 5th, 2016 by Ric Hanson

(Update-Noon) Highway 173 just north of Interstate 80 was partially blocked this (Thursday) morning for about 2 1/12 hours, after a semi attempting to make a turn became stuck in a ditch. The accident happened at around 7:15-a..m.

Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy Bill Ayers told KJAN News the truck driver and his passenger, both of whom are from Bosnia, but working for a Canadian trucking company, tried to back the trailer into a field drive to turn around, when the load shifted in the trailer, causing it to enter the ditch. The semi tractor/cab, was blocking the northbound lane.

A couple of wreckers from the Wings America Travel Center worked to remove the semi & trailer from the ditch. Traffic was directed into the single, southbound lane in the interim. The trailer and semi were finally removed at around 9:45-a.m.
