The Cass and Adair County Boards of Supervisors will hold their regular, separate weekly meetings Thursday morning. In Atlantic, the Cass County Board will meet at 8:30-a.m.  On their agenda, is action on: Approving fireworks display permits; FY 2016 expense appropriations and any necessary amendments; A Resolution approving the Cass County Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP); A County multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP); Certification of base salaries for deputies to the County Auditor, and, determining the compensation of “Other employees.”

In Greenfield, the Adair County Board of Supervisor’s meeting gets underway at 9-a.m., Thursday. Action items on their agenda include: Setting the Sheriff’s Reserves hourly wage; FY 2017 appropriation and transfer Resolutions; Manure Management Plan (MMP) updates, and Tax Credits.

VA Director Rich Schaecher will discuss the resignation of a Veteran Affairs Commissioner and the appointment of a V-A Commissioner. Custodian Rich Wallace will discuss a resignation in his department and new hire matters. And, Adair County Engineer Nick Kauffman will discuss the purchase of a Rail Road Right-of-Way, along with other matters.

A traffic stop in Exira early this (Wednesday) morning resulted in a man being arrested for Carrying weapons, Driving While Revoked, and No Registration. The Audubon County Sheriff’s Office says 41-year old Dale Joseph Langenfeld, of Exira, was taken into custody at around 2:30-a.m. He was brought to the Audubon County Jail and later released after appearing before the Magistrate.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Stanton man this (Wednesday) morning, for allegedly violating a No Contact Order. 41-year old Justin Wade Woods was taken into custody at around 8:10-a.m., and was being held in the Montgomery County Jail in $300 bond.

The City of Atlantic’s Parks and Recreation Department and Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, invites you to attend a retirement party for retiring Parks and Rec Director Roger Herring. The event takes place from 10-until 11:30-a.m. today at the Sunnyside Park Activities Center. Refreshments and treats will be provided.

Herring served as the City’s Parks and Rec Director for the past four years. He announced his retirement plans in Nov., 2014. Seth Staashelm, who served as Assistant Director for the Parks and Rec Department since Jan. 2015, was selected to succeed Herring as Parks Director.

An Atlantic man who, for years, served as a Scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts, was recognized Tuesday evening during the unveiling in the Atlantic City Park, of a wooden park bench bearing his name and likeness. Former Scouts from Troop 60 and others were on-hand for the ceremony honoring Bob Bebensee.

Don Linke, Carl Voss, Tom Olmstead and Steven Hoegh who were Boy Scouts that also became Eagle Scouts, spoke about the bench and how the idea came about to honor Bebensee. Linke flew –in for the event from Atlanta, GA. Olmstead came from New Mexico, Steve Hoegh came from Clarinda, and Voss from Des Moines. Other former Scouts from Alaska and Georgia who were unable to attend, provided letters reminiscing about their experiences.

Voss said a trip around Atlantic with Atlantic Parks and Rec Director Roger Herring helped to narrow down the location for the bench. The bench, located on the northeast side of the park, near Santa’s cabin, includes a caricature of Bebensee created by cartoonist Brian Duffy and etched into the backrest, along with the carving of a square knot with the inscription says ‘Bob Bebensee, Troop 60 Scoutmaster, 1960-1964’. Bob tied the knot that kept us together through scouting’.

Voss said the bench was made in Seattle, WA. He said also, Roger Herring was in on the surprise from the beginning, and somehow the secret was kept until the bench unveiling Tuesday evening.

Don Linke said Bob provided him and the others an opportunity to learn and live by the Boy Scout motto. Bob Bebensee said he was floored when he saw the bench with his name on it. He said his memories of being a Scoutmaster in the late ‘50’s and early ‘60’s came flooding back. He said he was pleased to see the boys become successful men in life.
