The Creston Police Department reports the arrest of a Prescott man after a traffic stop on Tuesday. 28-year-old Cory Petersen was arrested at 608 Wyoming Street in Creston for Driving While Suspended. He was later released from the Union County Jail on $300 bond.
Cook bacon until crisp. Remove bacon from heat; set aside. Saute mushrooms, onions and peppers in bacon drippings until tender; set aside. In saucepan, melt butter. Stir in flour, salt, pepper and 2 cups milk until smooth. Cook until thickened. Crumble and stir in bacon and sauteed vegetables; set aside. Scramble eggs with remaining milk in skillet over medium heat. Cut English muffins in half. Place on bottom and sides of 11″ x 7″ pan. Cover with half the white sauce. Spoon eggs over all; top with remaining sauce. Sprinkle with cheddar cheese (optional). Sprinkle with Parsley. Bake in 350 degree oven for 20 minutes.

Cover crops are among the topics set for the August 23, 2016, field day at the Iowa State University Neely-Kinyon Research and Demonstration farm near Greenfield, Iowa.
The field day will start at 4 p.m. at the farm located at 2557 Norfolk Avenue, Greenfield, Iowa. Directions: Two miles south of Greenfield on Highway 25, one mile east, and a half mile north.
Iowa State researchers and extension specialists will be discussing the challenges of the growing season, including weather, nitrogen and weed management; the opportunity of cover crops for farmers in southwestern Iowa; organic cropping systems; and monarch/pollinator habitat.
The farm tour will include a demonstration site for the project called Science-based Trials of Row-crops Integrated with Prairie Strips, or STRIPS. It has found that incorporating strips of perennial prairie plants in crop fields reduces soil and nutrient movement for a relatively low cost.
The Neely-Kinyon farm consists of 160 acres owned by the Wallace Foundation for Rural Research and Development, which leases it to Iowa State. The farm is managed as a satellite of the Armstrong Research and Demonstration Farm near Lewis.
A light meal will be served at 6:00. The field day is open to the public at no cost.

Iowa’s top crops are faring well, according to the latest report from U.S. Department of Agriculture. Eighty-three percent of both the state’s corn and soybean crops are rated in good to excellent condition.The USDA report released Monday states above normal rain allowed Iowa farmers to work the fields an average of just four-and-a-half days last week.

GRIMES, Iowa (AP) — An autopsy shows a 2-year-old boy found dead in his Polk County home died of a drug overdose. The Polk County sheriff’s office announced Monday an autopsy by the county medical examiner’s office determined Mason Wyckoff died of acute Oxycodone toxicity. The death was ruled a homicide. The medical examiner’s office also found the child’s mother, Stephanie Erickson, died of Oxycodone toxicity. Her death was ruled a suicide.
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A white officer has admitted to making “crass” remarks about a black teenager who was the victim of a fatal 2013 shooting in Iowa. Waterloo Police Chief Daniel Trelka says he has opened an internal investigation into the remarks by the officer, who was caught on tape disparaging 18-year-old Dae’Quan Campbell. The remarks were first reported by the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine will make his first visit to Iowa since becoming the Democratic vice presidential nominee. Kaine will hold what’s being called an “organizing event” at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Kaine’s event will continue a flurry of visits to Iowa by both presidential campaigns in recent weeks.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A flag desecration charge has been dropped for a man who protested a crude oil pipeline that crosses his property by hanging an American flag upside down at his home, online court records show. Homer Martz had been charged Friday under a state law that makes it illegal to defile, cast contempt upon, satirize or deride a flag. The charge was dropped Monday.
