(Red Oak, Iowa) – The Board of Supervisors in Montgomery County will meet 8:30-a.m. Tuesday, in their Red Oak Courthouse Board Room. On their agenda is approval of tax rebate requests for:

• The County Farm, in the amount of $4,938.
• City of Red Oak-owned property at 205 4th Avenue, in the amount of $188, and the rebate of property taxes acquired by Kimberly Lamb from the City of Red Oak, at 1210 N. 4th St., in the amount of $1,250.

The Board is also expected to act on a Tax Transfer from Rural Services Basic to Secondary Roads for FY 24/25, in the amount of $80,000, and from General Services Basic to Secondary Roads, in the amount of $1-million, for FY 24/25.

AGENDA 9-03-2024 Regular a

(Atlantic, Iowa) – The Board of Supervisors in Cass County will meet 9-a.m. Tuesday in the Board Room at the courthouse in Atlantic. On their agenda is action on approving an auditing firm contract with Gronewold, Bell, Kyhnn & Co. P.C., for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2024.

They will also discuss and possibly act on a commercial lease for the premises located at 601 Walnut Street, Suite 1, in Atlantic, for the Fourth Judicial District/Dept. of Correctional Service. The matter was tabled during the Supervisor’s meeting on August 20th.

The Board will discuss and possibly act on a request from the Atlantic Public Library for ARPA funds to repair the roof of the Library. And, they will act on a recommendation from the Cass County Assessor’s Office to abate the taxes on 309 4th St. in Griswold, as well as authorizing Board Chair Steve Baier to sign a technical support agreement with ReNewGov.

In addition, the Cass County Supervisors, Tuesday morning, will act to appoint Jeals Brines, DO, and Jill Pollpeter, MD, as Medical Examiner Deputies, at the request of Cass County Medical Examiner Dr. Elaine Berry.

(Red Oak, Iowa) – A call Sunday night in Red Oak about a possible burglary in progress, resulted in the arrest of a man on two charges. Red Oak Police reports Officers were dispatched at around 9:15-p.m. to the 100 block of E. Maple Street, and upon arrival and a brief investigation, arrested 57-year-old James Kent Otte (no city of residence listed). James Otte was charged with Public Intoxication and Trespass/1st offense (both Simple Misdemeanors).

He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $300 bond.

Davenport, Iowa – Officials with the Iowa Department of Corrections , Sunday night, said 55-yearGlen Elliot Long, who was convicted of Robbery 1st Degree in Scott County, failed to report back to the Davenport Residential Correctional Facility as required, Saturday.

Long is a black male who stands 5-feet 7-inches tall, and weighs 227-pounds (see his picture below). He was admitted to the Davenport work release facility on 06/11/2024.

(As we previously reported) Public safety personnel responded at around 5:45-a.m., Saturday (Aug. 31), to the area of North 12th Avenue and Bromley Street in Marshalltown, for a medical emergency. The Marshall County 911 Communications Center received a call about a person found in the roadway on North 12th Avenue with serious injuries. Upon arrival, emergency personnel found an unresponsive, adult male, in the roadway. The man had visible traumatic injuries. Immediate medical care was provided to the individual.

He was transported to the Marshalltown hospital and was later transferred to a medical facility in Des Moines, where he died.

The Marshalltown Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, are jointly conducting this murder investigation. This investigation remains active.
