NEWTON, Iowa (AP) – Ryan Hunter-Reay raced to his third IndyCar victory at Iowa Speedway in the last four years Saturday night. Hunter-Reay held off the field on a late restart to give Andretti Autosport its sixth consecutive win on Iowa’s 0.894-mile oval and its seventh in nine series races at the track. The American hadn’t finished higher than fifth all season.

Josef Newgarden was second and rookie Sage Karam was a career-best third, giving American drivers a sweep of the podium. Points leader Juan Pablo Montoya’s night lasted just nine laps after his No. 2 Penske car flew into the wall. Scott Dixon, who entered the race in second, failed to capitalize on Montoya’s misfortune. He finished 18th.

Heyward gets 5 hits, Cardinals beat Mets 12-2

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Jason Heyward matched a career best with five hits, Randal Grichuk had two homers and six RBIs, and John Lackey worked seven strong innings as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Mets 12-2 on Saturday night.

Mets starter Bartolo Colon (9-8) trailed by four runs after just one-third of an inning and surrendered seven runs in 4 1/3 innings. Heyward was removed after singling in the eighth, perhaps because he fouled a pitch off his leg earlier in the at-bat. Grichuk was 3 for 3 with a two-run homer off Carlos Torres that capped a four-run fifth and a three-run shot off Alex Torres in the eighth.

St. Louis improved to major league-bests of 58-33 overall and 33-11 at home. Lackey (8-5) scattered 10 hits, one of them to .084-hitting Colon, but was hurt only by Michael Cuddyer’s eighth homer leading off the sixth.

NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — England’s Max Chilton won the Indy Lights race Saturday at the Iowa Speedway after dedicating the race to former teammate Jules Bianchi, the French Formula One driver died early Saturday from injuries sustained in October in the Japanese Grand Prix.

Bianchi and Chilton were teammates at Marussia in 2014, and Chilton said he was racing for Bianchi after winning the pole. Chilton then dominated the 100-lap race on Iowa’s 0.894-mile oval, leading 87 laps even though he says he was thinking of Bianchi every “5 or 10 laps.” Ed Jones was second, followed by RC Enerson.
