The Falcons tied the game at 19 late in the second quarter and then hit two big shots to take their first lead of the game and head to half with a 24-19 advantage. The CAM Cougars played a tight game with the Stanton Vikings on Tuesday night at St. Albert High School but couldn’t make enough plays down the stretch in a 62-57 Viking victory. The game was tight early and tied at 18 at the end of the first quarter. Stanton pulled away a bit at the end of the half and led 33-27 at the break. The Vikings lead was 45-38 by the end of the third. The Cougars tied the game at one point of the fourth quarter 52-all but the Vikings grabbed the lead right back and built a six point lead with around a minute to go. The Cougars cut it to three on a Nic Holste triple and then sent Stanton to the line for a one-and-one try. Easton Blunt missed the free throw but the Cougars failed to get the rebound and Stanton wound down some time until Donnie Weis was fouled. Weis sunk two free throws to ice the victory.

CAM got a huge night from Senior Thomas Hensley as he dropped in 31 points, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had 2 steals. Nic Holste had 13 in his final outing as a Cougar as well. CAM ends their season with a record of 16-6.

Stanton was led by 21 point nights for both Drake Johnson and Donnie Weis. Dillion Rocha was just shy of a double-double with 8 points and 11 rebounds. Stanton improves to 21-1 and they will move on to the District 14 Final against St. Albert on Thursday night at 7:00pm at Riverside High School.

Atlantic Police warn of continued utility phone scam

News

February 20th, 2018 by admin

The Atlantic Police Department is warning area residents of a scam that continues to be reported. Numerous reports were received on Tuesday of business and individuals being contacted by someone claiming to be an Alliant Energy representative. The caller tells victims to contact a 1-800 number in order to take care of a past due payment. The same scam has been attempted using Atlantic Municipal Utilities as the utility. If you receive a call similar to this, police recommend not responding to the number. If you have an account with the company the caller is claiming to represent, contact that company directly to inquire about any questions you have with your account. Those companies won’t demand payment over the phone and you would be notified by mail about a disconnection situation.

Bears DB pleads guilty in northeast Iowa bar fracas

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) — A Chicago Bears defensive back has pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors stemming from a fracas at a bar in northeast Iowa. Deiondre’ Hall and Green Bay Packers defensive back Makinton Dorleant were arrested March 26 last year outside Sharkey’s Funhouse in Cedar Falls.

Court records say Hall entered written pleas Feb. 9 to charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication. He was sentenced to six months of probation on a deferred judgment. That will allow his conviction to be removed from court records if he successfully completes the terms of his probation.

The records say the Dorleant was given a year of probation and granted a deferred judgment at his sentencing last May on the same charges. The Packers cut him in April after he failed a physical.
Both men played college football in Cedar Falls at Northern Iowa.
