Lewis Central QB Duggan commits to TCU

Highly sought after Lewis Central Quarterback Max Duggan announced his commitment on Sunday night. Duggan has chosen to continue his football and academic career at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.

Duggan will now enter his senior season with his college decision made. He has been the Titans starting quarterback since his freshman year and has led the Titans to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs two of the past three seasons in Class 4A. The Titans will be back in Class 3A for his senior season.

Duggan is rated as the top prospect in the state by all the major recruiting outlets and he had over 20 offers from Division I schools on the table. Many reports stated that the decision came down to a choice between TCU and Minnesota.

This was originally a four team tournament that was moved inside to the Montgomery County YMCA with just Glenwood and Shenandoah competing. Each team earned two singles and two doubles wins but the victories were weighted by type and Glenwood racked up more points for the overall victory.

U.S. HWY 20 Construction Update

Road construction work for the expansion of U.S. 20 in Ida and Sac counties will require closing the roadway to traffic between Ida County Road M-25 (near Galva) and U.S. 71 (near Early) from noon Monday, Apr. 16, until Friday, Sept. 28, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office.

Motorists will be directed around the work zone on a signed detour using Ida County Road M-25, Ida/Sac County Road D-15, and U.S. 71.

RICHARD “DICK” LEE SCIRANKO, SR., 78, of Harlan, died Friday, April 13th, at home. Funeral services for DICK SCIRANKO, SR., will be held 1-p.m. Monday, April 16th, at the Grace Baptist Church, in Harlan. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Visitation will be held at the Grace Baptist Church in Harlan, from 10:30-a.m. until 12:30-p.m., Monday.

Burial will be in the Jacksonville Cemetery.

RICHARD “DICK” LEE SCIRANKO, SR., is survived by:

His wife – Sandra Sciranko, of Harlan.

His sons – Kevin (Amy Reafleng) Sciranko, of Harlan, and Richard “Rick” (Sue) Sciranko, of Shenandoah.

His brother – Harold (Vera) Sciranko, of Bedford, PA.

His sister – Florence Zimmerman, of Bedford, PA.

8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and his sister-in-law.

Party in Red Oak results in citations for MIP

Red Oak Police late Saturday night, were called to the 1200 block of East Reed Street, for a party, where persons under the legal age, were consuming alcohol, and where a controlled substance (Marijuana) was present. 19-year old Jackson Bryan Welter, 18-year old Bennett Andrew Archer, and 18-year old Quinn Robert Hall, all of Red Oak, were cited for Minor In Possession (MIP) of alcohol, and were released from the scene. 18-year old Noah Riley Roberts, of Red Oak, was cited and then released, for permitting minor use of alcohol at a residence.

Three juveniles were transported to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center for juvenile citations. A 16-year old male was cited into Juvenile Court, for Possession of marijuana, a 17-year old female was cited into Juvenile Court for MIP of alcohol and a 16-year old male was cited for MIP, All three juveniles were then released to their parent or guardian.

(AP) — Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Luis Valbuena homered as the Los Angeles Angels won their seventh straight, beating the Kansas City Royals 5-3 with the final innings played with snow falling. The Angels won their ninth consecutive road game, and will have Shohei Ohtani as their starting pitcher Sunday. The Royals have lost five straight.

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Reds are off to their worst start since the Great Depression. Greg Garcia hit a pair of homers for the first time in his career, sending St. Louis to a 6-1 victory. Cincinnati fell to 2-12, its worst 14-game start since 1931.

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Missouri had one of the top offenses in college football during the second half of last season. With new offensive coordinator Derek Dooley and quarterback Drew Lock back, the Tigers seek to improve on last season’s high-powered look this spring.

ADEL, Iowa (AP) — An Adel mother of twin toddlers spotted wandering naked near a busy state highway in central Iowa in November has pleaded guilty to child endangerment. The Des Moines Register reports that 19-year-old Jasmine Teed entered the plea Thursday in Dallas County District Court. Teed faces up to two years in prison when she’s sentenced May 31.

INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) — Deputies in Warren County have charged an 18-year-old man in the shooting death of a Cambridge woman. Des Moines television station KCCI reports that Jacquarious Scoggins, of Des Moines, was originally taken into custody earlier this month as a material witness in the death of 25-year-old Mercedes Wathen. The Warren County Attorney’s Office said in a news release Saturday that Scoggins was arrested Friday and has been charged with first-degree murder in Wathen’s death.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Some Des Moines live music advocates fear the proposed conversion of a historic downtown armory into two venues would hurt existing organizations. The Des Moines Register reports that national concert promoter Live Nation has partnered with Christensen Development to proposed the up to $15 million renovation of the Argonne Armory. Some city music leaders and entrepreneurs say Live Nation’s “monolithic approach to business” would endanger locally owned venues.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — State agricultural officials say an insect that’s killed millions of ash trees has been found in two more Iowa counties. Officials said in a news release Friday that the emerald ash borer has been confirmed in western Iowa’s Carroll County and the southwestern Iowa county of Taylor. That brings Iowa’s total to 57 counties. The latest infestations were discovered by tree services that alerted the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.

18-year-old man charged in shooting death of Cambridge woman

INDIANOLA, Iowa (AP) — Deputies in Warren County have charged an 18-year-old man in the shooting death of a Cambridge woman. Des Moines television station KCCI reports that Jacquarious Scoggins, of Des Moines, was originally taken into custody earlier this month as a material witness in the death of 25-year-old Mercedes Wathen.

The Warren County Attorney’s Office said in a news release Saturday that Scoggins was arrested Friday and has been charged with first-degree murder in Wathen’s death. Officers and medics were called to a home just south of Des Moines on April 2, where they found Wathen’s body.
