Authorities in Fremont County issued a news release a little after 10:30-pm., Monday, saying that a 16-year old male from Sidney who had not been seen since Sunday evening, has been located. Additional information about where he was found was not released.
Officials had put out a request for the public’s help in finding Joshua Michael Brace Lutz, just before 4-p.m., Monday. Lutz was last seen wearing American flag swim trunks. He was not wearing shoes or a shirt at the time of his disappearance.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Eduardo Escobar had three hits and drove in the game-winning run in the seventh to support Jose Berrios’ strong outing as the Minnesota Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 3-1 on Monday night. Escobar plated Joe Mauer with a seventh-inning single as Minnesota took advantage of Kansas City’s struggling bullpen to win its fifth straight game.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kaito Yuki is headed to the Kansas City Royals organization instead of attending high school in Japan. The team signed Yuki, a 16-year-old right-hander pitcher out of junior high to a minor league contract with a $322,500 signing bonus. He is thought to be the youngest Japanese player to sign with a major league club _ and the first to do so out of junior high school.
NEWTON, Iowa (AP) — Stock car racing team Venturini Motorsports has had a tradition of employing women that stretches back for decades. The ARCA outfit recently made history _ starting three female drivers in the same race for the first time in the modern era of the sport. Natalie Decker, Leilani Münter and Toni Breidinger competed at Chicagoland Speedway. By starting as a trio, they helped raise the profile of women in a sport long dominated by men.

FOUNTAIN HILLS, Ariz. (AP) — An Arizona grand jury has indicted a man on manslaughter charges in the deaths of our pedestrians near Phoenix four months ago. Authorities say the SUV Bashaw was driving jumped a curb and struck married couples from Iowa and Canada as they waited to cross a street in Fountain Hills about 32 miles northeast of Phoenix. Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials say 27-year-old Alex Bashaw moved to Ohio after the March 23 collision. They say he’s been arrested on the grand jury warrant and is awaiting extradition to Maricopa County.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Officers who followed a car zig-zagging down a Des Moines street before it crashed were surprised to find a 9-year-old girl at the wheel with a 7-year-old child riding shotgun. A 911 caller alerted police to a reckless driver Monday morning. Officers who spotted the car turned on their flashing lights while following it, but the curb-to-curb excursion didn’t end until the minor crash. Neither child was hurt. Police say the children were out on a joy ride, and were heading nowhere in particular.
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The family of former longtime Iowa Gov. Robert D. Ray has announced plans for his funeral. The service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Christian Church in Des Moines. Earlier in the week, Ray’s body will lie in state Thursday at the Capitol. Citizens can pay their respects between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. Ray died Sunday at age 89. He served 14 years as governor after his election in 1968 and was a former mayor of Des Moines and president of Drake University.
WAVERLY, Iowa (AP) — Authorities say an 18-year-old man died after a fireworks accident in northeast Iowa. The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and medics were sent around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to the man’s home near Waverly. Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Ellison said Monday that Coltin Carolus was lighting off fireworks with friends when he got too close to a device that may have malfunctioned. A sheriff’s office news release says he was taken office life support at a Waterloo hospital around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
After Regional Final play on Monday night the IGHSAU released the State Softball pairings for Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A.
Atlantic drew the #5 seed in Class 3A and will open up in the quarterfinals against the #4 seed Humboldt. That game is set for Monday, July 16th at 7:30pm on Diamond 2 at Harlan Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
In Class 2A Logan-Magnolia also drew the #5 seed and will play the #4 seed Central Springs on Monday, July 16th at 3:00pm on Diamond 2.
Trips to the State Softball Tournament were on the line in Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A in Regional Finals on Monday. Here’s the full scoreboard for area games.
The Atlantic Trojans softball team is heading to the State Tournament in Fort Dodge for the second time in program history, and the second time in three years. The Trojans were able to earn their place in the Class 3A State Tournament with a Region 4 Final win over Clarke 2-1.
It was quickly paced game with mostly solid defensive play but the few miscues are what made the difference. Atlantic got the scoring started in the bottom of the first with Ally Anderson driving in Alexis Handel who singled to get on with two out. Anderson hit what went down as a triple after a shot to the corner got by the right fielder. Those two hits were the only damaging ones from either team for a long time. The Trojans came away empty with runners on at second and third with just one out in the 4th.
Then came the 6th inning. Clarke led off with a Sidney Marker single, got another runner aboard with a bunt by Emma Bolton that included an Atlantic rotation miscue, and advanced the runners over with a ground out. Audrey Kindred then executed a squeeze nicely to bring Marker home to tie the game at one. But that’s all the Indians would get across as Ally Anderson forced a couple of ground-outs to end the threat.
The Trojans would answer back in the bottom half of the inning. Alyssa Derby led off with a single down the third base line. Alexis Handel flew out to center on a deep hit. Then Ally Anderson came through with a huge double that nearly lined out of the park and hit off the left field fence. That put runners at 2nd and 3rd again with just one out. That’s when the defining miscue of the game occurred. Reagen Pellett appeared to strike out but Indians catcher Audrey Kindred dropped the ball and Pellett was able to attempt to get to first. Kindred then instinctively chose to throw to first, allowing Alyssa Derby to take off for home and get across to give Atlantic a 2-1 lead. A fly out by Olvia Engler then ended the inning. Clarke was unable to get anything going in the 7th and went down in order to send Atlantic to Fort Dodge.
After the game Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann talked about the great effort from Ally Anderson against a good hitting Clarke team.
Atlantic came up just shy of getting to state last season and Coach Hinzmann said the girls talked at their first meeting of the season about not letting that happen again.
Atlantic third baseman Alexis Handel talked about that decisive 6th inning.
Handel talked about the feelings the team had about state tournament goals way before the season started.
Winning pitcher Ally Anderson allowed one run on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and no walks. After the game she talked about how good it felt to get the job done.
Atlantic improved to 30-5 with the win and will head to the Class 3A State Tournament next week. Alexis Watson took the loss for Clarke allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 1 strikeout and 1 hit batter. Clarke ends their season with a 17-14 record.
JULIA FRANCES PETERSON, 94, of Elk Horn, died Sunday, July 8th, at the Salem Lutheran Home. Memorial services for JULIA PETERSON will be held 11-a.m. Thursday, July 12th, at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home, in Avoca.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home, from 10-until 11-a.m. on Thursday.
Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery at Avoca.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information on the person or persons who illegally dumped garbage along side the road near the junction of Hamburg Road and 655th Street. A picture on the Sheriff’s Office Facebook page shows a single mattress and other junk. If you saw a vehicle with junk, or persons in the area acting suspiciously, call the Sheriff’s Office at 712-243-2206.
