Red Oak Police, late Monday night, arrested a man for Disorderly Conduct. Authorities say 50-year old Kirk Samuel England, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 11:20-p.m. in the 2300 block of Eastern Avenue. His bond at the Montgomery County Jail, was set at $300.

(Radio Iowa, Des Moines) — Republican Governor Kim Reynolds and Fred Hubbell, her Democratic opponent, are debating the executive decisions each has made in their careers. A new Reynolds campaign ad questions how Hubbell managed the Younker’s department store chain in the 1980s and ’90s, when stores in three communities closed. “When it comes to rural Iowa, I’m pretty excited to compare records because it’s not about what you say, but it’s about what you do,” Reynolds says.

Hubbell says the Ottumwa store closure was announced before he became Younker’s C-E-O and people in the ad talking about Younker’s closures in Ottumwa AND in Spencer are local G-O-P officials, not Younkers employees. “Let’s be honest…and let’s talk about the issues of today,” Hubbell says. “…Lack of income growth, lack of access to health care for families and lack of access to education –the biggest challenges in our state — and she’s not talking about it.”

Iowa G-O-P chairman Jeff Kaufmann says Hubbell is using “a lot of smoke and mirrors” when discussing his time at Younkers and at Equitable, the insurance company started by Hubbell’s great grandfather. Kaufmann also suggests Hubbell was not qualified for jobs he held at the companies his family owned. “I’m going to put my money with proven leadership, with Kim Reynolds, not some Polk County windbag that doesn’t have a clue,” Kaufmann says.

Hubbell says the tone of the ad shows Reynolds can’t run on her own “record of mismanagement,” from closing two of the state’s Mental Health Institutes to slashing higher education funding. “It makes no sense to be talking about what happened 30 years,” Hubbell says. “We should be talking about the issues of today and how we’re going to improve the quality of our education and the quality of how our education affects society and the results in our state.”

Hubbell is campaigning in the state this week, with stops in Nevada and Cedar Falls this (Tuesday) afternoon. Reynolds is attending National Governors Association events in Colorado this week.

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — A University of Iowa football player faces a public intoxication charge after police say he drunkenly mistook a police car for an Uber. University police say 22-year-old Brady Reiff was arrested in Iowa City around 2 a.m. Saturday. According to police records, Reiff tried to open the front and rear doors of the parked cruiser. An officer says when he asked Reiff what he was doing, Reiff told him he was looking for a ride.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The corn and soybean crops in Iowa and Nebraska are significantly ahead of schedule and looking very good for a plentiful harvest this fall. The U.S. Department of Agriculture in its weekly crop progress report says Nebraska corn is rated 87 percent good to excellent and in Iowa its 79 percent good to excellent. Soybeans are 85 percent good to excellent in Nebraska and 76 percent in Iowa. The crops are significantly ahead in development in both states.

BROOKLYN, Iowa (AP) — Relatives, friends and law enforcement are looking for a University of Iowa student who went missing from her hometown in central Iowa. Authorities say 20-year-old Mollie Tibbetts was reported missing Thursday. The Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that Tibbetts had not been found. Posters placed around town have one word across the center: Missing. Searchers have focused on fields between her home and where she was dog sitting.

JOHNSTON, Iowa (AP) — The National Weather Service has raised its count of tornadoes in the flurry that struck central Iowa. The service says a dozen or more occurred Thursday, with three accounting for 17 injuries and significant damage in Bondurant, Marshalltown and Pella. The Bondurant tornado was rated an EF2 with estimated peak winds of 115 mph. The twisters that struck Marshalltown and Pella were rated EF3 with peak winds estimated at 144 mph.
