CAM rolls past Fremont-Mills to head to Regional Final

Sports

February 15th, 2019 by admin

The CAM Cougars rolled past the Fremont-Mills Knights in the Class 1A Region 7 Semifinals on Friday night 67-23. The Cougars took control from the outset, racing out to a 24-8 lead by the end of the 1st quarter and a 26 point lead by halftime. By the end of the third quarter CAM had a 35-point lead and the running clock came into effect.

The Cougars were very effective at breaking the three quarter court pressure of Fremont-Mills and getting easy looks in transition. CAM Head Coach Joe Wollum said he was proud of the team execution of the game plan.

The Cougars did a great job of making the extra pass to find an open look all night long and Coach Wollum said that type of unselfish play is what is great about his team.

The Cougars got another strong performance from Madison Gettler with 19 points to lead all scorers on the night. Gettler talked about the Cougars having success forcing turnovers from the Knights.

Paige McAfee and Macy Ticknor each dropped in 13 for the Cougars in the win. CAM improves to 20-2 on the season and will head to the Class 1A Region 7 Final on Monday night. The Cougars will take on Colo-Nesco in that game after the Royals won their Semifinal over Collins-Maxwell 42-40. That game will be played at West Des Moines Valley High School on Monday night and we’ll have coverage on KJAN.

Fremont-Mills was led by 6 points from Courtney Goodman. The Knights end their season with a record of 14-9.

The driver of a 2004 Buick Rainier (SUV) was injured this (Friday) morning, during a rollover accident on Highway 34 in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports 35-year old Kaleb Lee Wagaman, of Stanton, was traveling east on Highway 34 at around 5:22-a.m., when the SUV went out of control on the icy, snow-covered road. The vehicle entered the south ditch and rolled at least three times before coming to rest on its side. Wagaman – who was wearing his seat belt – complained of pain and possible injury. He was transported to the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital by Red Oak Rescue, to be checked-out. No citations were issued due to the road conditions.
