Villisca man arrested on Page County warrant

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports the arrest Friday night of 40-year old Alan Paul Gray, from Villisca. Gray was taken into custody at around 9:10-p.m. in Villisca, on a valid Page County warrant for Failure to Pay Child Support. The man was turned over to Page County authorities and held in the Page County Jail on $1,000 bond.

Red Oak man arrested Friday evening

Police in Red Oak arrested a local man Friday evening. Officials say 26-year old Kyle Wayne Pack, of Red Oak, was arrested at around 4:40-p.m. on a warrant charging him with a Probation Violation. Pack was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Johnson leads Iowa State women to 69-66 win over No. 23 Iowa

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Seanna Johnson scored 22 points, including two free throws with 5.4 seconds left, and Iowa State rallied to defeat No. 23 Iowa 69-66 on Friday night. Ally Disterhoft, who led the Hawkeyes with 26 points, missed a contested 3-pointer over Bridget Carleton at the buzzer. Iowa (8-2), which lost its 10th straight at Ames, led 33-28 at the half and 54-46 entering the fourth quarter before the Cyclones (5-3) rallied.

It became a duel between Disterhoft, who had nine points in the fourth quarter, and Johnson, who had 11. The duo combined to score the last 12 of the game in the final two minutes but Disterhoft missed a free throw with seven seconds left. The Hawkeyes made 4 of 15 shots in the fourth quarter, Iowa State 8 of 15. Johnson also had 10 rebounds and five assists. Disterhoft had eight rebounds and three assists.

Big 12 won’t punish Iowa St for students rushing court

AMES, Iowa (AP) — The Big 12 says it won’t discipline Iowa State after students stormed the basketball court in a scene that left a newspaper columnist with a broken leg. The league says Iowa State handled the postgame celebration consistent with the Big 12’s guidelines for sportsmanship and ethical conduct.

Randy Peterson of the Des Moines Register was knocked over while walking from press row to the postgame news conference after fans rushed the court Thursday night following Iowa State’s 83-82 win over rival Iowa.

Peterson broke the tibia and fibia in his left leg. On Friday, he says he has no problem with fans rushing the floor after a big win.

Overnight closure scheduled for southbound I-29 near Council Bluffs Dec. 13

The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Ames Construction Office reports southbound Interstate 29 near Council Bluffs will be closed Sunday night from the I-29/I-80 interchange (Exit 4), to the U.S 275/Iowa 92 interchange (Exit 47), for demolition of the bridge over the interstate lanes.

Ramp closures scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 13th at 6:30 p.m. include: Westbound I-80 to southbound I-29 ramp, which will be closed to traffic; At 7 p.m….Eastbound I-80 to southbound I-29 ramp will be closed to traffic.IA DOT

Southbound I-29 will be reopened to traffic at 5:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 14th. Interstate travelers should follow the local detour during the closure.

Wastewater discharge occurring from Elliott Treatment Lagoon

Officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources said Friday evening, that the DNR is investigating the report of an ongoing wastewater discharge at the city of Elliott’s wastewater lagoon. The DNR’s Atlantic field office received a video showing the discharge Friday afternoon. DNR inspectors were en route to the Montgomery County city to work with the city to stop the discharge and to collect water samples.DNR logo

Residents should keep children and pets away from the East Nishnabotna River downstream of Elliott while the discharge continues. The extent of the problem and the amount of discharge is unknown at this time. DNR will continue to monitor the situation and repairs, and may seek appropriate enforcement action.

Arrest warrant issued in connection w/Bluffs bank robbery

Police in Council Bluffs say an arrest warrant for 1st Degree Robbery has been issued for a man suspected of robbing the Frontier Savings Bank Thursday afternoon. Sgt. Dave Dawson says as the result of an investigation, they were able to identify the suspect as 46-year old Dwight E. Rogers, of Council Bluffs.

Rogers should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be confronted by the public. He’s described as being about 6-feet tall and weighing about 225-pounds. He was last seen (during the robbery) wearing an orange, hunting-style stocking cap, mirrored sunglasses, a gray sweatshirt, black knit gloves and faded jeans with work-style boots.

Fatal Car vs Pedestrian accident in Council Bluffs, Fri. evening

An adult male pedestrian died Friday evening after being struck by a pickup truck near the intersection of 35th and Broadway, in Council Bluffs. According to Bluffs Police Sgt. Darren Budd, officers were dispatched to the scene at 5:25 PM. The report indicated 65- year old Dan D. Belt, of Council Bluffs, was crossing the street from east to west about half a block south of Broadway on 35th Street, when he was struck by a pickup truck driven by 24-year old Chadwick Pifer, of Council Bluffs.

The sequence of events after Belt was hit remain under investigation. Council Bluffs Fire Department performed CPR and transported the man to the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where he was pronounced deceased. Speed and intoxication do not appear to be factors in the accident. The CBPD’s Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
