Iowa State promotes Tom Manning to offensive coordinator

Sports

December 16th, 2015 by Ric Hanson

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell has promoted line coach Tom Manning to offensive coordinator. Manning spent the past four seasons as an assistant under Campbell at Toledo. Manning then came with Campbell when he was hired by Iowa State last month.

Manning and Campbell were teammates for a season at Division III powerhouse Mount Union. Manning later coached at Mount Union for a season before joining Campbell at Toledo.

Manning’s promotion fills one of the last pieces on Campbell’s new staff. The first-year coach still has yet to hire a defensive coordinator. Iowa State went 3-9 last season under Paul Rhoads, who was fired in November after seven years in Ames.

ISU’s Mitrou-Long to miss the rest of the season

Sports

December 16th, 2015 by Ric Hanson

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State starting guard Naz Mitrou-Long is out for the rest of the season because of his ailing hips. The fifth-ranked Cyclones say Mitrou-Long will miss the remainder of his senior year because his surgically repaired hips haven’t responded the way he would like.

Mitrou-Long says he’ll seek a medical redshirt after playing eight games and averaging 12 points. Mitrou-Long missed Sunday’s win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, but apparently the rest didn’t help his discomfort.

Mitrou-Long’s absence will further deplete Iowa State’s thin rotation. Though the Cyclones (9-0) will finally have transfer Deonte Burton eligible for Saturday’s game against Northern Iowa, they’ll still be only seven players deep.

200+ Iowans who joined buying club to share $20,000 in refunds

News

December 15th, 2015 by Ric Hanson

More than 200 Iowans will be getting refunds after they unknowingly enrolled in an expensive buying club. A Tennessee-based company that operates the website SavingsGalore.com has agreed to stop enrolling Iowans and make some $20,000 in refunds. The Iowa Attorney General’s Office reports the company failed to post clear notices and disclosures about when a consumer is being signed up for a buying club membership.

In many cases, Iowans discovered unexpected membership charges to their credit or debit cards, but they’d gone unnoticed for months or even years. According to the A-G’s office, consumers who signed up for the buying club will be contacted by the state about their refund.
