LaVERNE LANSMAN, 85, of Audubon, died Thu., Dec. 24th, at the Friendship Home, in Audubon. Funeral services for LaVERNE LANSMAN will be held 10:30-a.m. Mon., Dec. 28th, at the Ross Calvary United Methodist Church, in Ross. Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation begins at 4-pm. Sunday, Dec. 27th.

Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon.

LaVERNE LANSMAN is survived by her:

Sons – Randy (Cindy) Lansman, of Audubon, & Tom (Lisa) Lansman, of Bettendorf.

Daughters – Susan (Mike) Weber, of Manning; Julie (Gary) Stone, of Clive; & Kathy Lansman (& Ed Brady), of Des Moines.

11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, other relatives & friends.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Golden State Warriors won a matchup of NBA finalists on Christmas Day as Draymond Green had 22 points and 15 rebounds in an 89-83 triumph over the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers. Stephen Curry chipped in 19 points and Klay Thompson added 18 to help the Warriors improve to 28-1 this season, extending the best start in NBA history. LeBron James had a game-high 25 points for the Cavaliers, who ended a six-game winning streak by shooting 32 percent.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Jimmy Butler scored 23 points and the Chicago Bulls ended a three-game skid by downing the Thunder 105-96 in Oklahoma City. Pau Gasol (pow gah-SAHL’) delivered 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Derrick Rose added 19 points to help the Bulls hand the Thunder just their second loss in 11 games. Kevin Durant contributed 29 points, nine boards and seven assists for the Thunder, while Russell Westbrook provided 26 points, eight assists and seven rebounds.

MIAMI (AP) — Miami earned its seventh straight Christmas Day victory by downing the New Orleans Pelicans 94-88 in overtime. Chris Bosh finished with 30 points and 10 rebounds as the Heat improved to an NBA-best 10-2 on the holiday. The Pelicans lost despite Anthony Davis, who provided 29 points and 15 points.

HOUSTON (AP) — San Antonio’s seven-game winning streak is over after James Harden produced 20 points and nine assists in Houston’s 88-84 triumph over the Spurs. Dwight Howard finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Rockets, while Terrence Jones came off the bench to added 14 points and six boards. Kawhi (kah-WY’) Leonard had 20 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 18 for the Spurs, who fell to 25-6.

HONOLULU (AP) — Buddy Hield (HEE’-uld) and Jordan Woodward each set career highs for points as third-ranked Oklahoma knocked off Harvard 83-71 in the Diamond Head Classic title game. Hield finished with 34 points on 11 of 14 from the field and 9 of 10 from the free-throw line. Woodward was 9 of 13 from the field and 6 of 7 from the line as the Sooners shot 50 percent from the floor as the Sooners improved to 11-0.

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — Dubuque Community School District administrators want to expand the district interpreter program to keep up with the growing demand. The Dubuque Telegraph Herald reports the number of students in the district with limited English proficiency has increased by 170 percent over the past 10 years. Students in the English language learners program speak more than 20 different languages, including Tagalog, Russian, Arabic and Marshallese.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Two former Iowa National Guardsmen have been honored for valorous conduct while serving in Afghanistan. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports former Sergeant Justin Schmitt of Nashua, and former Specialist Brian Swedberg, formerly of Prairie City, were awarded Army Commendation Medals for valor on Wednesday at the National Guard Readiness Center in Waterloo.

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo church has surprised firefighters and police officers with holiday treats, including hundreds of homemade cookies. The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that members of Our Savior Lutheran Church’s youth and evangelism boards spent three days this week baking 904 cookies, 820 pretzels, 166 miniature popcorn balls and 20 pounds of fudge. The groups delivered the goodies Thursday to each Waterloo fire station and the police station.

HONOLULU (AP) — Chase Fischer scored 26 points to lead BYU to an 84-76 win over Northern Iowa in the fifth-place game of the Diamond Head Classic Friday. Matt Bohannon scored 21 points and Jeremy Morgan had 19 to lead the Panthers in Honolulu.

HONOLULU (AP) — Chase Fischer scored 26 points and Kyle Collinsworth added 12 points, 17 rebounds and six assists to lead BYU to an 84-76 win over Northern Iowa in the fifth-place game of the Diamond Head Classic Friday. The Cougars (9-4) shot 50 percent (28 of 56) from the field and had five players score in double figures. Zac Seljaas had 12 points, Nick Emery chipped in 11 and Kyle Davis 10.

Fischer shot 7 of 14 from the field and made four 3-pointers two days after scoring a career-high 41 points against New Mexico Wednesday. Fisher, Emery and Collinsworth combined to go 16 of 16 on free throws. BYU shot 19 of 21 from the foul line and outrebounded the Panthers 42-27. Matt Bohannon scored 21 points and Jeremy Morgan had 19 to lead Northern Iowa (8-5). BYU led by as many as 15 points and held a 38-28 advantage at halftime.
