Burial will be in the Harlan Cemetery.

A. MARILYN HANSEN, 82, of Panora (Formerly of Casey) died Tuesday, January 26th at her home in Panora.  Funeral services for A. MARILYN HANSEN will be held Friday, January 29th at 10:30am in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Casey.  Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, January 28th from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Casey.

Burial will be in the Dalmanutha Cemetery in Casey.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Illinois State hands Drake its 9th straight loss, 76-64

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) — MiKyle McIntosh scored 25 points with four 3-pointers and three steals, Deontae Hawkins added 17 points with five 3s and Illinois State beat Drake 76-64 on Tuesday night to win its third straight.

Justin McCloud scored 12 with four 3-pointers, DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell added 10 points and Tony Wills had a career-high seven assists for the Redbirds (12-10, 6-3 Missouri Valley), who shot 15 of 28 from long distance.

Drake led 15-13 on Ore Arogundade’s 3-pointer, but the Redbirds hit three straight 3-pointers and a dunk and surged to a 40-35 halftime lead.

Illinois State led by 20 on McCloud’s 3-pointer with 13:46 left in the second half and cruised from there.

The Redbirds outscored Drake on fast-break points, 13-2, and used 18 assists in making 26 of 58 field goals (45 percent).

Reed Timmer scored 19 and Graham Woodward added 12 for the Bulldogs (5-16, 0-9), who have lost nine straight.

LaVONNE SYMONDS, 95, of Corning died Monday, January 25th at Corning Specialty Care. Funeral services for LaVONNE SYMONDS will be held 1:30-p.m. Friday, Jan. 29th, at the Pearson Family Funeral Home, in Corning.

Visitation is open at the funeral home from 2-until 8-pm today (Thursday, 1/28), with the family receiving friends from 6-until 8-p.m. Online condolences may be left at www.pearsonfuneralhomes.com.

Slick roads contribute to Montgomery County crash Monday

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office reports a two vehicle accident occurred on Monday afternoon and resulted in suspected minor injuries to one person.  At about 4:05pm 18-year-old Jared Mattson of Villisca was traveling in a 1985 Ford Explorer westbound on 200th Street about 1/2 mile West of Highway 71.  Mattson lost control on the icy, snowy road and slid into the path of a 1994 Buick LeSabre driven by 61-year-old Michele Stevens of Villisca.  The vehicles hit head on in the middle of the eastbound lane.

Stevens was transported from the scene by Villisca Rescue to Montgomery County Hospital with suspected minor/non-incapacitating injuries.  Mattson refused treatment at the scene.  Mattson was cited for Failure to Maintain Control and No Insurance.  The Explorer sustained $3,000 damage while the LeSabre sustained $2,500 damage.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Villisca Fire Department, Red Oak Rescue, and Montgomery County Emergency Manager.

Burglary at Council Bluffs greenhouse

Police in Council Bluffs are asking for your help in finding a vehicle, tools and other equipment that was reported stolen over this past weekend. Authorities say the Dallas Johnson Greenhouse at 2802 Twin City Drive was broken into at around 2:18-a.m., Sunday. Several tools, a generator and a pickup were taken. The pickup is described as an extended cab 2005 blue Ford F-250, bearing Iowa license plate 378 XST, with a 9’ Boss snow plow attached.

Anyone with information about the burglary should call the Council Bluffs Police Department at 328-STOP. Your tip could be eligible for a cash reward and you
can remain anonymous.

ANDY JENSEN, 79, of Fontanelle, died Tuesday, January 26th, at the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield. Funeral services for ANDY JENSEN will be held 10:30-a.m. Friday, Jan. 29th, at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle. Steen Funeral Home in Fontanelle has the arrangements.

Visitation, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fontanelle will be held from 2-until 8-pm Thursday, with the family greeting friends from 6-until 8-p.m. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.

Burial, with full military graveside rites performed by the Fontanelle American Legion Carlson Post #247, will be in the Fontanelle Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, following the burial.

Coralville to vote on plans for Hayden Fry statue

CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) – Coralville’s City Council is set to vote on an agreement with a company to design and create a life-sized bronze statue in honor of former University of Iowa football coach Hayden Fry. The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports that the City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday. The city intends to hire Max-Cast, a fine arts foundry, to create the $36,000 statue that would be placed along a street known as Hayden Fry Way.

Max-Cast owner Steve Maxon has been working with the University of Iowa to develop conceptual drawings for the statue. Fry, who now lives in Mesquite, Nevada, retired from coaching following the 1998 season. He led the Hawkeyes to the Rose Bowl three times and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

ATV stolen from Union County farm

Sheriff’s officials in Union County say an Afton man reported the theft over the weekend, of an ATV. Brett Lee Weis, of Afton, reported Monday that sometime over the weekend someone took his orange 2012 Polaris ATV-12 550 from an out building on Pheasant Avenue. The loss was estimated at $10,000.
