DeWitt Girls Track Invitational at Clarke

The DeWitt invitational girls track meet was held at Clarke High School in Osceola on Thursday with a few area teams competing.

In the Class A Portion of the meet Bondurant-Farrar came away with the team title with 138pts.  Creston finished 7th.  The Panthers won the 4x800m Relay.

In the Class B portion of the meet Wayne took the top spot with 149pts, edging out Nodaway Valley who was second with 130.5pts.  The Wolverines got a win in the 800m from Destiny Scar. She also took the 1500m run and 3000m run.  The Wolverines also took the top spot in the 4x200m Relay, 4x400m Relay and Sprint Medley.

The month of March was a little warmer and drier than normal. Weather stats compiled here at KJAN (The Official National Weather Service reporting site for Atlantic), show our average High temperature for the month of 57, was 8 degrees warmer than normal, while the average Low of 31, was 6 degrees cooler than the norm. Precipitation (including rain and melted snowfall), amounted to 1.34 inches, which was 1.04 inches below average.

The warmest day here in March, was 75 on the 7th. The coolest morning was 11, on March 1st. For the month of April, we should average out to 62 degrees for a high, according to past records, while the monthly precipitation should amount to 3.43 inches.

Creston Police Report: 1 arrest, 1 theft

Police in Creston say one person was arrested and one theft was reported, Thursday. Authorities say 19-year old Trey Mills, of Kent, was arrested Thursday afternoon for Driving While Barred, following an accident at the exit from a school drive onto Townline Road. Officials say Mills was driving a 2000 Chevy Lumina southbound from the drive and failed to yield at the stop sign. His car struck an eastbound 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by 43-year old Tammy Reed, of Kirksville, MO., causing $7,000 damage. No injuries were reported. He was cited for the traffic offense and arrested on the Driving While Barred charge. Mills was later released from the Union County Jail on a $2,000 bond.

And, a Creston man residing in the 800 block of N. Lincoln Street reported Thursday evening, that someone had stolen a 1989 Blue Diamond gooseneck trailer that was parked in the old Creston Wal-Mart parking lot off New York Avenue. The incident happened sometime between March 14th and 31st. The loss was estimated at $3,000.

Thursday’s High in Atlantic was 53. The Low thru 7-a.m. today was 34. We received .05” of precipitation from 7-am yesterday through 7-a.m. today. Last year on this date, our High in Atlantic was 82 and the low was 13. The All-time Record High in Atlantic on this date was 87 in 2003. The Record Low was 13 in 2013.

2 arrests in Red Oak, Thursday

Police in Red Oak report two people were arrested on separate charges, Thursday. Thursday night, 22-year old Blake Mitchell Wilkinson, of Red Oak, was arrested for on an active Montgomery County warrants charging him with violating the terms of his probation. Wilkinson was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $1,000 bond.

And, 49-year old Kristine Myers Ryan, of Elliott, was arrested at around 2-a.m. Thursday, for possession of a controlled substance/marijuana. She was taken into custody following a traffic stop in Red Oak. Ryan was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $1,000 bond. The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit assisted Red Oak Police in making the arrest.

Accident in Red Oak Thursday: No injuries reported

Police in Red Oak say an accident Thursday evening caused $1,600 damage, but no one was injured. Officials say the accident happened at around 6:10-p.m., when 16-year old Kyla Gass, of Red Oak, stopped at the intersection of 4th and E. Hammond Streets, but then proceeded into the intersection, where the 2002 Chevy Cavalier she was driving was struck by a northbound 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix, driven by 20-year old Andrew Parker, of Red Oak. Gass was cited for Failure to Yield from a stop sign.
