2 Adams County arrests Wednesday

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office released details on two Wednesday arrests.

Adams County Deputies arrested James Kermit Cook of Greenfield on an Adams County Warrant for two counts of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse.  Cook was taken to the Adams County Jail and held on $10,000 cash only bond.

Also Wednesday Adams County Deputies arrested Durrell Hayes of Creston on an Adams County Warrant issued by the Creston Police Department for Operating While Intoxicated 1st Offense.  Haynes posted a $1,000 bond and was released.

Tractor rollover south of Atlantic Wed. afternoon

(Updated) — Atlantic Fire and Rescue along with Medivac ambulance was called to the scene of a tractor rollover about three-miles south of Atlantic near 620th and Keystone Road, Wed. afternoon. The call about the accident near 60686 620th (Olive St.), came in at around 4:12-p.m. Law enforcement on the scene reported a man (identified as Ben Nevins) was partially trapped under the fender of the tractor, but was conscious and breathing. He was able to free one of his legs by the time authorities arrived.

Authorities said Nevins had been mowing a lawn using a medium-size tractor equipped with a belly mower. When the tractor entered a ditch, it rolled onto its side.  As it began to roll, Nevins tried to jump clear, but the tractor rolled onto his leg just above the ankle. He was transported by Medivac Ambulance to the Cass County Memorial Hospital to be checked for injuries and treatment, as necessary.

According to reports, personnel from a tiling company working nearby, used their backhoe to lift the tractor off of Nevins.

2 arrested on drug charges in Cass County

Sheriff’s deputies in Cass County arrested two people on drug charges this week. On Monday, 35-year old Tabitha Lynette Clark, of Atlantic, turned herself in at the Cass County Jail on a Sheriff’s Office warrant for Possession with Intent to Deliver Meth. Clark was booked at the Cass County Jail and was released later that day on $10,000 bond. On Tuesday, 27-year old Kasandra Rose Mesa, of Madison, SD, was arrested on a Cass County Sheriff’s Office warrant on felony charges that include Use of Minor in Drug Trade, and Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine. Mesa was taken to the Cass County Jail where she remains held on $20,000 bond.

Also arrested Tuesday, was 33-year old David Anthony Walling, Jr., of Council Bluffs, who was taken into custody on a District Court warrant for Probation Violation. Walling was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held on $10,000 bond.

Wednesday (today), 28-year old Anthony James Krum, of Omaha, NE, was arrested on an Atlantic Police Department warrant for felony Theft in the 1st Degree. Krum was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held on $10,000 bond.

Red Oak man arrested after road rage incident

An incident of apparent road rage late this (Wednesday) morning in Red Oak resulted in an arrest. Red Oak Police say 38-year old James Donald Watkins, of Red Oak, was arrested in the 100 block of W. Coolbaugh Street, following the incident that took place between Watkins and another driver. Watkins was charged with simple assault and brought to the Montgomery County Jail, where his bond was set at $300.

Glenwood man arrested in kidnapping of an Arkansas woman

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) – A man from western Iowa has been arrested on preliminary attempted murder and kidnapping charges after authorities say he tied a cinder block to his ex-girlfriend and tossed her into the Spring River in Cherokee Village, Arkansas. Sharp County (AR) sheriff’s detective Jimmy Bennett tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that 45-year-old Jerry Dean Clark of Glenwood,  was being held in the Sharp County jail on a $250,000 bond.

Court documents say Clark kidnapped 44-year-old Kathryn Lynn Jones at a Days Inn Hotel on April 20th. Bennett says that after Jones emerged from the river, Clark tied her to a tree and hit her. She freed herself and floated 2 miles downstream before calling for medical attention at a residence. Clark will face formal charges in Sharp County, AR, Circuit Court, on May 12th.

MARLAN “Mike” LILLY, 82, of Des Moines (& formerly of Greenfield), died Wed., May 4th, at Mercy Hospice Home, in Johnston. Funeral services for MARLAN “Mike” LILLY will be held 10:30-a.m. Tue., May 10th, at the United Methodist Church, in Greenfield. Steen Funeral Home, in Greenfield has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, May 9th, from 4-until 8-p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6-until 8-p.m.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.

Memorials may be directed to the Mike Lilly Memorial Fund, to be established by the family.

Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, with full Military graveside rites conducted by the Greenfield American Legion Head-Endres Post No. 265 and V.F.W. Post No. 5357. A luncheon will be held at the United Methodist Church, in Greenfield, following committal services.

His wife – Marjorie, of Des Moines.

His daughter – Teresa (Hank) Bolton, of Colorado Springs, Co.

His sons – Daryl (Tricia) Lilly, of Winterset, and Shawn Lilly, of Des Moines.

His sister – Becky (Bob) Hodge, of Logan.

Gov. Branstad orders flags at half-staff Friday in observance of Iowa Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony

Gov. Terry E. Branstad today (Wednesday) ordered all flags on the Capitol Complex to be flown at half-staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 6th, in observance of the Iowa Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony which is to be held at 10-a.m. on Friday, May 6th, at the Oran Pape State Office Building of the Iowa Department of Public Safety, on the Capitol Complex.

Flags at the Iowa Peace Officer Memorial, located at the Oran Pape State Office Building, will be flown at half-staff the week of May 16-20, 2016, in honor of National Peace Officer Week.

The governor’s directive applies to all U.S. and state flags on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays on the Capitol Complex.  Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.

The Underwood Eagles took wins in the Shuttle Hurdles, 4x400m Relay, and had Nick Pedersen win the 400m on their way to the team crown.

Audubon’s Mitchell Nelsen won the 110m Hurdles and the Wheelers won the 4x100m Relay.

AHSTW got wins from Spencer Symanowicz in the Shot Put and Gage Clay in the 100m and 200m.

Griswold’s Jadon Jahnke won the High Jump.
