MERVIN EARL LARIMORE, 87, of Oakland, died Thursday, Aug, 25th, at home. Funeral services for MERVIN LARIMORE will be held 11-a.m. Thursday, September 1st, at the Rieken-Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland.

A visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, August 31st, 2016 from 5-until 7 PM, at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland.

Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Hancock.

A memorial fund has been established.

MERVIN LARIMORE is survived by:

His son – Garry Larimore, of Omaha.

His daughter – Julie Nallie and husband Robert, of Papillion, Nebraska.

His step-children: Shawn & Tracy Stevens, Jamie Scofield and wife Tina, Tammy Wahl and husband Dave.

A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

CANCELLED-“Dutch Oven Cooking” Program

The Cass County Conservation Board and Friends of Lake Anita said Friday, that “Due to unforeseen circumstances… the “Dutch Oven Cooking” Campground Program” has been cancelled for Saturday.  The free public program was to be held at the Primitive Campground at Lake Anita State Park in Anita, on August 27th at 11-a.m.

Cumberland man involved in Shenandoah accident Friday morning

The Page County Sheriff’s Office says no injuries were reported following an accident Friday morning, on the south side of Shenandoah. Deputies were notified of the crash at around 9:42-a.m. The accident happened at the intersection of A Avenue and Highway2.  An investigation showed 86-year old Claude Randall Apperson, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2004 Buick LaSabre.  21-year old Caleb William Chupp, of Cumberland, was driving a 2009 Dodge 3500 pickup with a 1998 Take 3 trailer hauling H & H trailers for sale that are all owned by H & H Trailer of Clarinda.

Chupp was westbound on Highway 2, east of A Avenue.  Apperson had stopped at the stop sign at A and Highway 2, and had started southbound across the Highway. He didn’t see Chupp’s approaching pickup.  Chupp saw the car enter the intersection and swerved to the south, but his truck struck the front driver’s side fender of the Apperson vehicle.

Chupp continued west / south into the south ditch where the pickup / trailer jackknifed causing totaling damage to the pickup.  The action also caused damage to the Take 3 trailer and one of the cargo trailers that was being hauled. Apperson spun west prior to coming to rest in the westbound lane of traffic.  His car was considered a total loss as well. The total dollar amount of damage was estimated at $17,000.  Both driver’s refused medical medical treatment.

The Page County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Shenandoah Fire Department, Shenandoah Ambulance Service, and the Shenandoah Police Department.

I-80 ramp closures in Council Bluffs scheduled for Aug. 30

Officials with the Iowa Department of Transportation said Friday, they will close the westbound Interstate 80 to southbound I-29 ramp (at Exit 4) beginning 7-p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30th, weather permitting, for interstate road construction work.
The ramp will reopen at approximately 6 a.m. Friday, Sept. 2nd. Travelers should follow the posted detour to access I-29 southbound, according to the Iowa DOT’s District 4 Office. Prior to the westbound I-80 closure, construction crews will move a crane at midnight, on Tuesday, Aug. 30.
Eastbound I-80, between south- and northbound I-29 splits, will be closed. A detour will also be in operation for this closure. The Iowa DOT expects to reopen the eastbound lanes by 2 a.m.

Cass County Sheriff’s report (8/26)

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office, Friday, issued a report on recent arrests. Last Sunday (Aug. 21st), the Atlantic Police Department arrested 29-year old Joshua Robert Olwell, of Atlantic, on a Cass County Sheriff’s Office warrant for Possession with Intent to Delivery Methamphetamine. Olwell was taken to the Cass County Jail where he remains held on $10,000 bond.

On Monday, deputies with the Cass County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31-year old Derik Wayne Bud Pickrell, of Fontanelle, on a Cass County Sheriff’s Office warrant for OWI 1st Offense and an additional charge of OWI 1st Offense. Pickrell was taken to the Cass County Jail and was released the following day on $2,000 bond.

And, as mentioned earlier this week, on August 22nd, the Atlantic Police Department arrested 25-year old Alexandra Lynn Stone and 19-year old Lucas Lee Stone, both of Atlantic, on Cass County Sheriff’s Office warrants for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine. Both parties were taken to the Cass County Jail and later released on their own recognizances.

CREED WILSON, 2, of Atlantic, the son of Chelsey & Kyle Wilson, died at home Friday, Aug. 26th. Funeral services for CREED WILSON will be held 6-p.m. Tuesday, August 30th at the United Methodist Church in Cumberland. Steen Funeral Home in Massena has the arrangements.

The family will greet friends on Monday, August 29th, at the Steen Funeral Home in Massena from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.

Burial will be in the Wierich Cemetery, at Lyman.

Memorials may be directed to the Children’s Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.

Creed is survived by his parents: Kyle and Chelsey Wilson, of Atlantic.

His grandparents – Traci and Kurt Luke, of Lewis, Bernard and Kim Wilson, of Carter Lake, and Kyle and Julie Williams, of Massena;  His uncle, Scott, other relatives and friends.

AP source: Chiefs safety Berry reporting to camp Sunday

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – A person familiar with Eric Berry’s plans tells The Associated Press that the All-Pro safety will report to practice Sunday, giving him one preseason game to prepare for the season. The person spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity Friday because he wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

Berry was given the franchise tag early in the offseason but has not signed the deal, which means he could skip all of training camp without being fined. Once he signs the one-year contract, he will make just over $10.8 million, making him the league’s highest-paid safety.

The Chiefs had hoped to sign Berry to a long-term deal in the offseason, but the two sides were never close to reaching an agreement by the July 15 deadline.

Exira-EHK healthy and ready for new football season

The Exira-EHK Spartans are healthy and ready for a new football season.  The Spartans dealt with some injuries to key players throughout the 2015 campaign but those players are back and ready to contribute for the Spartans again this year.

Senior Kyle Petersen missed the majority of last season with a knee injury but will get his shot now to lead the Spartan offense at quarterback.

Senior Drew Buckholdt is back after having a great 2015 campaign but had to fight through injuries at the end of the season.  The tailback racked up 1,123 yards and 21 touchdowns on 144 carries in 2015 and he’s also a huge part of the Spartans defense at middle linebacker.

The Spartans will face a tough test in week one with a match-up against an Audubon Wheelers team that made a playoff run last year in the 11-man ranks and now transitions to 8-man play. Coach Petersen said it’s hard to prepare for the Wheelers because they don’t know a lot about them as a new 8-man team.

We’ll have coverage of the Spartans and Wheelers from Exira Friday night on KJAN.  Pregame at 6:30pm, Kickoff at 7:00pm.

Audubon makes transition to 8-man Football

Audubon Co-Head Football Coach Sean Birks is excited about the new season and he knows there is a transition ahead for his team as the Wheelers drop from 11-man to 8-man Football this season.

Coach Birks has been pleased with his players work adjusting since last season and said the decision to transition to 8-man play was not one that was taken lightly.

The Wheelers did lose a very strong Senior class with the likes of Jake Mulford and Mitchell Nelsen gone but the top returners for the Wheelers are spread out across the field and have also been leaders in the weight room.

The Wheelers embark on their first 8-Man season with a trip to Exira on Friday night to face the perennially strong Exira-EHK Spartans.  Coach Birks said they will need to focus on themselves and getting better at how they want to play early in the season.

We’ll have coverage of the game on KJAN with pre-game at 6:30pm and kickoff at 7:00pm.
