CHICAGO (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have acquired cornerback Kenneth Acker from the San Francisco 49ers for an undisclosed draft pick. A sixth-round selection by the 49ers in 2014, Acker missed his rookie season because of a foot injury. But he played in 15 games last season and had three interceptions. The deal was announced on Saturday.
JoANN CORCORAN, 84, of Greenfield, died Saturday, August 27th, at her daughter’s home in West Des Moines. Funeral services for JoANN CORCORAN will be held 10:30-a.m. Wed., Aug. 31st, at the United Methodist Church in Greenfield. Steen Funeral Home in Greenfield has the arrangements.
An open visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 30th, from 2-until 7-p.m., with the family greeting friends from 5-until 7-p.m.; Online condolences may be left to the family at www.steenfunerals.com.
Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at the Greenfield United Methodist Church.
Memorials may be directed to the JoAnn Corcoran Memorial Fund to be established at a later date by the family.

Iowa Department of Corrections Assistant Director Fred Scaletta said today (Saturday), a prison inmate serving time for the death of a child, and who was listed Friday as escaped from a facility in eastern Iowa, has been apprehended. Thirty-nine-year-old John Mohr had failed to return from his job to a work release facility in Davenport.
Mohr was sent to work release back in April. He was sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in 1997 for the death of his girlfriend’s 13-month-old son in Clinton. Mohr was 19 at the time. The child was the victim of shaken baby syndrome.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A retired Catholic priest in western Iowa has been charged with five counts of invasion of privacy over an alleged incident at a high school track meet in April. The Des Moines Register says a news release Friday from the Diocese of Des Moines announced that the Rev. Paul Monahan had been suspended on July 8 after the diocese learned of the investigation.
Monahan was charged by the Iowa Attorney General’s Office, which has not released details of the April incident. The Diocese says Father Monahan plans to plead not guilty. According to diocesan protocol, Bishop Richard Pates immediately suspended the retired priest from all public ministry, while the investigation and adjudication are ongoing. The suspension will remain in place until the matter is legally resolved. An independent third party conducted an audit of all diocesan files of living priests, including Father Monahan, in July 2014. Officials say the audit contained no evidence of inappropriate conduct by Father Monahan.
Monahan was ordained in 1960 and retired in 2004. He served St. Columbus in Weston, St. Mary’s in Avoca, St. Patrick’s in Walnut, Holy Family in Council Bluffs, St. Mary’s in Portsmouth, and Our Lady of Holy Rosary, in Glenwood. In his retirement, Monahan also served as a senior chaplain at St. Albert Schools in Council Bluffs.
On behalf of the Diocese of Des Moines, Bishop Pates said he extends apologies to those who perceived violation of privacy. He urges prayer for all involved, including Father Monahan. The Bishop said “We must allow the law to run full course before further steps are taken by Church authorities.”

FAST AND EASY STIR FRY
Start with a pan. If you ever owned a wok and it is tucked away in storage, find it now. Or maybe you have a not-used-often electric skillet. If neither of those is available an ordinary skillet and stove top works fine. A spatula or flat spoon will also be needed.
Begin with a tablespoon or little more of oil depending on the amount of veggies to be cooked. Vegetable, canola or peanut oils work well at the medium high heat required. Butter and extra virgin olive oil are not recommended for stir frying.
Chop or slice all ingredients before beginning to cook. Smaller pieces will cook more quickly than large ones. Gather seasonings and herbs which you like to use.
Heat oil. When it begins to shimmer, add onions and garlic to cook a minute. Oil absorbs the flavors which distributes throughout the mixture. Add veggies which may require a little longer cooking time followed by the others. Add salt and pepper or other preferred seasonings. Continue to stir and turn contents. Cook until almost tender to your liking, about 8 minutes. Add herbs such as basil, oregano, rosemary, etc. Add precooked foods such as leftover veggies and meat to heat through. Serve hot.
Here’s one example: vegetable oil with garlic and onion; green beans first followed by summer squash (zucchini), salt and pepper; then basil and parsley; left over canned corn.

The Audubon Wheelers and Exira-EHK Spartans battled it out to the bitter end in Exira on Friday night. Ultimately the Wheelers will able to hang on to the lead they had for a majority of the game and get their first 8-Man Football win 38-32.
The Wheelers are transitioning this season from 11-man to 8-man football and they got a great early test from the Spartans. Coach Sean Birks said he wasn’t sure what to expect but was proud of the way his team learned throughout the game.
The Spartans got off to an early 7-0 lead on the first possession of the game but Audubon answered back with a score on their first offensive possession. The Wheelers took the lead for good on the first play of the second quarter as Quarterback Tyler Reibhoff scampered in on a 13-yard touchdown run to make it 12-7. The Wheelers would lead 24-7 at half but Exira-EHK used their strong depth to push back within a score twice in the second half. Coach Birks liked the way the Wheelers responded to adversity when the Spartans rallied back.
Exira-EHK scored the final points of the game on a 3 yard Drew Buckholdt touchdown run with 4:01 remaining that made it a 38-32 ballgame. The Wheelers were able to churn out three first downs on their final possession to milk the clock dry and seal the win. Wheeler Receiver Josh Lange said it was good to get a win against a strong Spartan squad.

Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton.
Family visitation will be held Sunday, August 28th from 4:00pm-7:00pm at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.
