Atlantic hits 9 threes in win over St. Albert

Sports

December 2nd, 2016 by Jim Field

The Atlantic Trojans were hot from downtown in a 66-49 win over St. Albert in Hawkeye 10 boys basketball. The Trojans had 4 different players hit a three-pointer and tallied 9 total in the win. The outside shot got Atlantic rolling early as they poured in 4 long balls in the first quarter and led 19-11.

The Falcons fought back in the second quarter and gave Atlantic a little trouble with some three quarter court pressure. The Trojans still led by 6 at the break and adjusted to handle the pressure much better in the second half.  Coach Alan Jenkins said it was just a matter of his team settling down to handle the pressure.

Garrett Franken scored 22 to lead the Trojans. Chase Mullenix had 16 points including 3 three pointers. Austin Alexander hit 4 from downtown and finished with 14points.  Alexander feels like he has been getting more comfortable in the point guard role.

Coach Jenkins thought it was overall a great shooting night and a great win against an experienced team.

The Trojans are back at it on Monday night in a game at Red Oak.
