IRENE J. BAYLOR, 87, of Exira, died Thursday, Dec. 22nd, at the Exira Care Center. Funeral services for IRENE BAYLOR will be held 10:30-a.m. Tue., Dec. 27th, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, east of Exira. Kessler Funeral Home in Exira has the arrangements.

Friends may call at the funeral home, where the family visitation begins at 5-p.m on Monday, Dec. 26th.

Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, south of the church.

Her sons – Jeffrey Baylor, and William (Angela) Baylor, all of Exira.

10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, other relatives & friends.

Villisca man arrested on assault charges Friday night

Police in Red Oak say a man who was reported to have been out of control in the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital’s Emergency Room, was arrested Friday night on two counts of assault on a health care providers. 55-year old Danny Meyers Moody, of Villisca, was taken into custody at around 9:55-p.m., and was being held on $1,000 bond in the Montgomery County Jail.

Authorities say Red Oak Police Officers were called to the E-R after Moody, who was a patient at the facility, became angry with staff at the hospital and allegedly kicked and struck a nurse in the arm and abdomen, and allegedly attempted to kick another nurse. Moody received the medical treatment he was at the hospital for, then arrested on the assault charges. None of the staff suffered any injuries that required treatment.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The company building an oil pipeline across four Midwestern states says it is halting land restoration work in Iowa until spring. In a letter to the Iowa Utilities Board on Monday Dakota Access says it had hoped to be finished with land restoration over the completed Iowa section by Dec. 31 but a regulatory delay this spring and “several incidents of trespassers interfering with construction work” prevented it from completing land restoration which is 80 percent done in Iowa.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Gov. Terry Branstad says the Department of Human Services made “personnel changes” following the death of a West Des Moines teenager who was left in an allegedly abusive home despite reports made by a neighbor. Sixteen-year-old Natalie Finn died from denial of critical care and her mother is now charged with murder. Branstad’s office didn’t provide details on the personnel changes at the state agency.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the number of hogs and pigs on Iowa farms has reached a new record high. As of Dec. 1 Iowa had 22.4 million hogs and pigs, the most ever reported.

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Ron Paul’s 2012 presidential campaign chairman, convicted earlier of conspiracy and charges related to false campaign reporting, is accused of violating his probation while trying to arrange an illegal donation to President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign. Court documents filed in federal court in Des Moines last week say Jesse Benton traveled to New York in October in violation of his probation agreement. Benton’s attorney had no comment this week.

Council Bluffs man arrested Sat. morning in Shenandoah

Police Officers in Shenandoah early this (Saturday) morning, arrested a Pottawattamie County man. Officers called at around 1-a.m. to a domestic disturbance at a residence on the 800 block of South Avenue, took into custody 20-year old Anthony Racine, of Council Bluffs, following an investigation. Racine was charged with felony Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree. He was transported to the Page County Jail after he was unable to make bond.

2 Winterset women injured in head-on Madison County crash

A head-on crash between two SUV’s Friday evening in Madison County, resulted in two women being sent to hospitals in Des Moines. The Iowa State Patrol reports 62-year old Lynnette Kay Anderson was transported from the scene by Mercy One helicopter to Mercy Hospital, where she was listed in critical condition at last report. 79-year old Marlene Kay Saxton was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital, where she was being treated for serious injuries. Both women are from Winterset.

The Patrol say Anderson was driving a 2016 Jeep Compass northbound on Highway 169 at around 6:15-p.m., when for reasons unknown, her vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2006 Subaru Legacy driven by Saxton.

It’s not clear if wet road conditions played a role in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Shenandoah Police arrest man wanted in stabbing incident

Police in Shenandoah late Friday night arrested a man wanted in connection with a stabbing incident earlier that day. 28-year old James Dean Archer, of Shenandoah, was arrested sometime after 11-p.m., in connection with a stabbing incident in at 1212 W. Sheridan Avenue in Shenandoah.No other information on the incident was immediately released.

Archer was also arrested on active, nationwide, arrest warrants for the felony crimes of Attempted Murder and Going Armed with Intent.

Theft and drug arrests reported in Fremont County

Fremont County Sheriff Kevin Aistrope reports three women were arrested on separate drug and/or theft charges this past week.

On Wednesday (12/21), Deputies in Fremont County arrested 36-year old Pamela Jo Wake, of Hamburg, on a warrant for Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine, in connection to a previous narcotics investigation in the week and multiple burglary investigations. Wake was being held at the Fremont County Jail on $50,000 cash bond.

An investigation into a reported theft from the Casey’s General Store in Hamburg, resulted in the arrest Friday (12/23), of 42-year old Ronda Sue Booher of Hamburg, who was observed by witnesses allegedly attempting to take several items from the store without paying.

Booher was taken into custody on a charge of 5th Degree Theft.

And, Sheriff Aistrope reports 42-year old Kara Marcine Lorimor, of Sidney, was arrested Friday (12/23) for 5th Degree Theft, after authorities investigated the reported theft of Christmas decorations from the hallway of an apartment complex. During the investigation, several of the stolen items were found in the womans’ residence.

Lorimor was taken to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office and held on a $300 bond.
