Atlantic Swim Teams to hold fundraiser May 13th just in time for grilling season

The Atlantic High School girls’ and boys’ swim teams are holding a fundraiser on Saturday, May 13th in conjunction with Pelgas. For $32.50 (first cylinder), the team will pick up your empty grilling cylinder, deliver it to Pelgas for filling, and return it to your house. The second cylinder is $25. The team receives $25 from each cylinder.

Farmers take big jump ahead in planting corn last week

Farmers in parts of the state were able to get into the fields last week. The latest U-S-D-A crop report shows 28 percent of the corn has now been planted, despite soggy weather in a lot of areas of the state. That’s a big increase compared to last week’s report when only eight percent of the corn was in the ground.

Farmers in southeastern Iowa made the most progress with more than half their corn acreage planted — while farmers in the northern third of Iowa have planted less than one-fifth of their corn. Overall planting is one week behind last year, but only two days behind the five-year average. Soybean planting got underway in some areas, with two percent of the soybeans planted, That’s two days behind average.

Lorimor man arrested on warrants

Sheriff’s officials in Union County report 26-year old Dillon Cole Decker, of Lorimor, was arrested Monday in Madison County, on two Union County warrants for Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, and Assault causing serious injury.  Decker was being held in the Union County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Public hearings in Adair County on $9.2-million G.O. note issuance’s

The Adair County Board of Supervisors will hold a series of public hearings during their meeting Wednesday morning in the Courtroom at the Courthouse in Greenfield.

The meeting begins at 9-a.m., and includes action on a Hazard Mitigation Adoption Resolution, a Manure Management Plan Update, and the setting of a date for a Public Hearing on a FY 2017 Budget Amendment.

Five separate Public Hearings are then set to get underway at 9:30. Those hearings are with regard to a combined $9.21-million in General Obligation Capital Loan Notes and the authorizing of a Loan Agreement(s). The funds will be used for the construction, re-construction, improvement, repair, or equipping of certain bridges, roads, and culverts that assist in economic development, creates jobs and wealth.

Each of the hearing will be followed by action on Resolutions instituting proceedings to take additional action. The Adair County Board of Supervisors meeting concludes with discussion pertaining to the courthouse elevator.

  • 1/2 cup paprika
  • 3 tablespoons onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 3 tablespoons cayenne pepper
  • 2 tablespoons white pepper
  • 2 tablespoons pepper
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 4 teaspoons dried thyme
  • 4 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 4 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 4 teaspoons chili powder

In a small bowl, combine all ingredients.  Store in airtight container in a cool, dry place for up to six months.
