Sheriff’s deputies in Montgomery County have arrested two people for Public Intoxication. At around 3:30-a.m. today (Sunday), 38-year old Devon Rene Diaz, of Omaha, was taken into custody, and 33-year old Chad Alan Raptis, of Kayenta, AZ., was arrested at around 8:45-p.m. Saturday. Both men were booked into the Montgomery County Jail for Public Intoxication. Their bonds were set at $300, each.

Several people who witnessed a rollover accident Saturday night in Council Bluffs, are being credited with saving the life of a 54-year old Council Bluffs man who nearly drowned as a result of the crash. Council Bluffs Police says officers were called to the area of I-80 East Bound at the South 24th Street/I-29 North Bound Exit Ramp for a single vehicle accident that happened a little after 9:45-p.m.

Authorities say a Pontiac Grand Prix was traveling east bound and left the roadway and grazed a road sign at the beginning of the exit ramp split. The vehicle then re-entered the roadway and veered left, where it struck a light pole, continued off the roadway on the south side of the exit ramp, and came to rest at the bottom of the ditch, submerged in waist deep water.

Witnesses, who saw the accident, were able to get the unconscious, unidentified driver’s head out of the water. Council Bluffs Medics arrived and removed the driver and transported him to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. The crash is still under investigation. The exit ramp was closed for over 2 hours while the Council Bluffs Traffic Unit investigated the accident.

Bluffs Police Sgt. MJ Brinkman said “We would like to thank the citizens of Council Bluffs and the surrounding cities for their quick action to assist the driver in his time of need.”

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A fourth person has died from injuries received in a Des Moines apartment fire. The Des Moines Register reports that a man being treated at a hospital died Friday from his injuries received in the Thursday fire that killed three others. Police have not yet released the names of those killed, only that a 57-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man were among the dead. Police say the other person killed will have to be identified using DNA testing.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) — President Donald Trump’s planned visit next month to Iowa has been postponed. Trump had been scheduled to visit Cedar Rapids _ his first trip to Iowa as president of the United States _ on June 1. A news release sent Saturday said the trip has been postponed “due to an unforeseen change in President Trump’s schedule.” The date for a rescheduled visit is expected early next week.

KINGSLEY, Iowa (AP) — Officials say 2,400 hogs have died in a massive fire near Kingsley in northwestern Iowa. Sioux City television KTIV reports that the Plymouth County fire was reported Friday morning. Firefighters arriving on the scene found the large confinement building completely engulfed in flames, and part of the roof had caved in. Hog farmer Keith Harvey says the fire started at the north end of the building near a motor in one of the fan housings.

GRAFTON, Iowa (AP) — A northern Iowa woman says she is grateful something positive could come from her daughter’s death _ legislation banning people from receiving insurance benefits if they’ve been convicted of crimes against the deceased person. The Globe Gazette reports the bill was signed into law earlier this month after multiple attempts, continued persistence by the parents of 27-year-old Brigett Wirtjes and the combined efforts of three area legislators. It goes into effect July 1.

Shenandoah Police, Saturday, released a report on arrests over the past week. On Saturday (5/27), 20-year old Amy Hummel, of Shenandoah, was arrested for Domestic Abuse Assault/1st offense, following an domestic disturbance at a residence in the 900 block of W. Valley Avenue. Hummel was brought to the Page County Jail and held without bond, pending an appearance before the magistrate.  Also arrested Saturday, was 46-year old Donald Olsen, of Essex, for Public Intoxication, following a disturbance at a local bar. Olson later posted a $300 bond and was released.

On Friday (5/26), 21-year old Jared Comstock, of Shenandoah, and a juvenile female, were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance/Marijuana. Also taken into custody, was Kinsey Studey, of Shenandoah, for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Comstock posted bond and was released with a court date. The juvenile was cited into juvenile court and released to an adult. Studey was cited into court and then released. Their arrests followed an investigation into a suspicious vehicle parked with its lights off on Argus Road, near the entrance to Wabash Trace. After making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, K9 Argo was deployed.

Also arrested Friday was Wendy Gray, who was wanted on a warrant out of Page County. She subsequently posted a $300 bond and was given a court date. On Thursday, Shenandoah Police arrested on a Page County warrant, Scott Head. He also later posted a $300 bond and was released with a court date.

And, at around 10-p.m. Wednesday, Shenandoah Police were dispatched to 6th and Elm for a reported fight in progress. Upon further investigation, 29-year old Tiffany Marie Wood, of Shenandoah, was arrested for Assault Causing Bodily Injury. She posted a $1,000 bond, and was given a date for her initial court appearance.
