Shildberg Recreation Area progress a big topic at Atlantic Parks and Rec meeting

The Atlantic Parks and Recreation Board met on Monday evening in the council chambers at City Hall and progress at the Shildberg Recreation Area was a big topic of discussion. Atlantic Parks and Recreation Director Seth Staashelm said work is going on this week to plant trees, install fire rings, and begin sewer line installation for the campground.

Some shoreline stabilization work is being done around lake 3 at Shildberg’s and long term plans are in mind to eventually connect the lake 2 trail to a full circle.

The board also discussed the Sunnyside Pool Renovation plans and Staashelm is encouraging the public to comment on the project so the plans can be shaped by the community.

Discussion also began on forming a committee to look into improving the little league complex into a larger sports complex that other sports can take advantage of.

A summer series of Movies in the Park also starts up this Friday with some added fun activities for the kids.

CHARLES YAGER, 77, of Coon Rapids died Monday, June 19th at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.  Mass of Christian Burial for CHARLES YAGER will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 10:30 am at the Annunciation Catholic Church in Coon Rapids.  Ohde Funeral Home in Coon Rapids has the arrangements.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Visitation will resume Thursday at 9:30 am at the church.

Burial in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Dedham.

CHARLES YAGER is survived by:

Wife:  Helen Yager of Coon Rapids.

Daughter:  Keri Lindaman of Colorado Springs, CO.

Son:  Ryan Yager of Coon Rapids.

Sister:  Evonne Schaaf of Des Moines.

Brothers:  Jarry Yager of Coon Rapids & Delmar Yager of Coon Rapids.

SHARON GAYLE HARTVIGSEN, 82, of Harlan died Thursday, June 15th at University of Nebraska Medical Center. Memorial services for SHARON GAYLE HARTVIGSEN will be held Thursday, June 22nd at 11:00am in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimballton. Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan has the arrangements.

Family will greet friends on Wednesday, June 21st from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Pauley-Jones Funeral Home in Harlan.

Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Kimballton at a later date.

DOROTHY FLORENCE BRANDES, 83, of Oakland died Tuesday, June 20th, at the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland. Funeral services for DOROTHY BRANDES will be held 10:30-a.m. Friday, June 23rd, at the Oakland United Methodist Church, in Oakland. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland has the arrangements.

A Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, June 22, 2017 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, at the Rieken Funeral Home in Oakland.

Memorials may be donated to the Alzeheimer’s Association.

DOROTHY BRANDES is survived by:

Her children – Ken Brandes and wife Jane, of Hancock; Delmar Brandes and wife Stephanie, of Oakland; Jeannie Lawrence and husband Jim, of Meriden, CT, and Shari Engle of Millard, NE.

10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

Sausage Bake (6-20-2017)

Mom's Tips

  • 1 1/2 lbs. sausage
  • 2 cups sharp cheese (cubed)
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 3/4 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 1/2 cups seasoned croutons
  • 1 cup mushrooms, drained
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/4 cup milk

Brown and drain the sausage.  Add the cheese, beaten eggs, mustard and milk, then the seasoned croutons.  Mix and place in a 9″ x 13″ pan sprayed with Pam.  Refrigerate over night.  In the morning, mix and pour 1 can mushroom soup, milk and drained mushrooms over the sausage dish.  Bake at 350 degrees for an hour.

Do not stir in the mushroom soup and milk, just pour over top.  Check the outside edges if done.  The milk will look wet, but this is how it should look.
