Underage Drinking Party Busted in Red Oak

An underage drinking bust at approximately 12:30am Saturday (11/15) morning in Red Oak led to eight teenagers being charged.  The incident occurred at a residence on East Hammond Street.

18-year-old Ryan Plambeck of Red Oak was charged with consuming Alcohol Underage.  The other 7 teens were charged with Minor in Possession of Alcohol.  Those individuals were Autumn Athey of Red Oak, Matthew Wood of Stanton, Francisco Rohner of Red Oak, Bennett Archer of Red Oak, Quin Hall of Red Oak, Brooke Samms of Stanton, and Alyssa Wilkins of Red Oak.

Adair-Casey School Board to vote on the district’s future next week

Members of the Adair-Casey Community School District’s Board of Education are expected to decide on the future direction of the district, this coming week. A meeting scheduled for Tuesday evening (11/18) will include comments about the district’s financial  situation, from Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) Finance Director Gary Sinclair.  That meeting begins at 6-p.m.

Next Wednesday (11/19), the Adair-Casey School Board will hold their regular meeting at 7-p.m. in the High School Library, during which it’s expected they will discuss and then vote on options concerning Whole Grade Sharing, Consolidation, or staying the course with regard to finances and operations.

The Board has been working throughout the year assessing the district’s financial and operational stance, and had met with experts to analyze current enrollment trends, finances, class/course options and more. They’ve also met with four contiguous district board of education to evaluate sharing opportunities.  if the Board agrees to either Whole Grade Share or Consolidate with a district yet to be determined, additional talks would be held early next year.

The purpose of the past and future meetings, is to determine what is in the best interest of all students in the Adair-Casey School District.

Red Oak Police Report Two Arrests Friday Night

The Red Oak Police Department reports the arrest of two individuals in separate incidents Friday (11/14) night.

At 6:00pm officers arrested44-year-old Richard Jenkins of Red Oak on an active Pottawattamie County Warrant for Failure to Appear on original charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Jenkins was transported to the Montgomery County Law Enforcement Center and is being held on a $2,000 bond.

At 10:20pm officers were called to the 100 block of East Prospect Street for a reported domestic abuse incident. After gathering information from both parties and witnesses it was determined that one individual’s story was not matching witness accounts.  24-year-old Eylissa Rose Strange of Red Oak was then arrested on a Domestic Abuse charge and transported to the Montgomery County Jail where she is being held.

Car Catches Fire After Wreck Friday Night

The Montgomery County Communications Center received a call from Cass County on Friday (11/14) night at approximately 9:33pm of an unoccupied vehicle fire around 110th Street and Pilot Grove Park.  The vehicle was then located on Q Avenue, one half mile north of 110th Street fully engulfed in flames.  Elliot Fire arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.

Upon investigation it was determined that the owner and operator of the vehicle was 23-year-old Jared Scott Smith of New Market.  He was traveling northbound on Q Avenue when he fell asleep and woke back up as he was entering the east ditch.  Smith swerved back to center and lost control, sliding into the west ditch where the car laid to rest.  Smith stated the vehicle began to fill with smoke and he exited the vehicle and called 911.  The vehicle was a total loss.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Elliot Fire and Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Accident in Fremont County Friday

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office was called to a one vehicle accident at approximately 7:33am on Friday (11/14/14) in the 1300 block of Highway 275.  Officers discovered that 14-year-old Bryant Reafling was driving to school and lost control and rolled a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville. Reafling refused treatment of injuries at the scene. During the accident the car also knocked down a No Passing sign and a telephone box owned by Windstream.  The accident is still under investigation.

Aaron White Leads Hawkeyes in Opener

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) – Aaron White scored 17 of his 19 points in the first half to lead Iowa to a 90-56 win over Hampton in the season opener for both teams on Friday night. The Hawkeyes had 20 assists on their 29 field goals and a 48-32 rebounding margin. Iowa’s Jarrod Uthoff scored 13 points on a career-best four 3-pointers made in five attempts beyond the arc. New starter Anthony Clemmons added 12 points.

Dwight Meikle scored 14 points to lead Hampton and Quinton Chievous added 12 with nine rebounds. The Pirates shot 34 percent from the floor, including only 4 of 18 on 3-pointers. White made 7 of 10 free throws. The forward added seven rebounds and six assists in 21 minutes.

Iowa’s Gabe Olaseni had 12 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Peter Jok added 11 points. The Hawkeyes have won 25 straight nonconference home games.
