ALFRED “AL” GEORGE WEDE, 95, of Atlantic, died Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Heritage House in Atlantic. A Memorial service for AL WEDE will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 23, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic has the arrangements.

A luncheon in the church reception hall will follow the service.

Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service held at the church on Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to the Al Wede Family to be designated later and mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.

AL WEDE is survived by:

Wife:  Genevieve Wede of Atlantic

Daughter:  Nancy (Tim) Templeman of Atlantic

Sons:  Rod Wede of McKinney, Texas; Scott (Jill) Wede of Lantana Texas

4 Grandchildren

and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and family.

Search continues for missing Glenwood woman

(Glenwood, Iowa) – In an update to our previous report, sheriff’s officials in Mills County, Sunday afternoon, said the search continues for a missing Glenwood woman. Authorities Saturday night issued a “Silver Alert” for 73-year old Judy Krueger, who was reported missing after having last been seen at around 1:30-p.m. Saturday, when she left her residence on foot.
Judy Krueger is 5-feet three-inches tall, she weighs about 130-pound, has reddish gray hair, and suffers from Dementia. She was last known to be wearing jeans, and 2-to-3 layered t-shirts. She also has a bracelet with her husband’s contact information on it.
The Sheriff’s Department said a two-mile radius around her home was searched by foot, UTV, vehicle and drone operations.  The Sheriff’s Office is being assisted in the search by: Glenwood Police; the Mills and Montgomery County Emergency Management Agencies (EMA); Mills County 911; Glenwood Fire and Rescue; the Malvern and Pacific Junction Fire Departments; Oak Township Fire; The Cass County (IA) Sheriff’s Office, and numerous volunteers from the community.

Juvenile injured in Fremont County fireworks incident

(Sidney, Iowa) – The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Sunday afternoon, reported that at around 8:10-p.m. Saturday, authorities received a 911 call about a juvenile who had been injured by fireworks at a rural residence near Farragut.

The 11-year-old male was transported with critical injuries to Shenandoah Memorial Hospital and then air lifted to a trauma center in Omaha.

Farragut Fire and Rescue, Shenandoah Fire and Rescue, and the Iowa State Patrol were assisted by the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.

The incident is under investigation.

Creston woman arrested Saturday – cited and released

(Creston, Iowa) – A woman from Creston was arrested at around 9:30-a.m., Saturday. Creston Police report 44-year-old Lela Ann Churchwell, was arrested at her residence. Churchwell was charged with Disorderly Conduct-Loud Raucous Noise. She was cited and released from the scene with her citation.

Silver Alert for missing Mills County woman

(Glenwood, Iowa) – The Mills County Sheriff’s Office, Saturday night, issued a “Silver Alert” for a missing woman. 73-year old Judy Krueger was last last seen at around 1:30-p.m., Saturday, when she left her residence on foot. She was last known to be wearing blue jeans, and layered tshirts.
Judy Krueger is wearing a bracelet with her name and her husband’s contact information on it. She has been listed as a missing person.

(Updated 2:27-p.m., 9/17) House fire in Atlantic Saturday night

(Atlantic, Iowa) – Firefighters in Atlantic were dispatched to a residential fire at 11:49-p.m., Saturday. The incident occurred at 304 Hazel Street. Firefighters on scene reported the fire knocked down by 12:02-a.m., Sunday. Atlantic Fire Chief Tom Cappel said when they arrived on the scene, flames were observed coming out the front door of the house.

No one was in the home at the time. When they returned home, they noticed the fire and called it in.

A short time before that fire was reported, Atlantic Fire was called to a reported kitchen fire at 1202 Birch Street. It turns out there was no fire. A pan that was heavily smoking was removed from the home, though, and the residence ventilated.

Atlantic Police, Cass EMS, Cass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to both scenes. Additional details are currently not available.

Red Oak woman arrested on Assault & Child Endangerment charges

(Red Oak, Iowa) – A woman is being held without bond in the Montgomery County Jail, following her arrest late Friday night. Red Oak Police report 30-year-old Ashley Nicole King, from Red Oak, was arrested at around 11-p.m. in the 1000 block of N. 4th Street, on charges that include 2nd degree domestic abuse assault, and child endangerment.

(Clarinda, Iowa) – The Page County Sheriff’s Office has released a report on accidents covered/investigated, from Aug. 17th through Sept. 10th. They include:

8/17/2023 2400 block of Highway #2. Rebecca J. Lehr was traveling west bound on Highway #2. In the 2400 block of Highway #2 a horse entered the roadway. Lehr was unable to miss the horse. Lehr struck the horse causing heavy damage to her car.
8/18/2023 2400 block of Fremont Ave. Bailey Marie Hensley was traveling north on Fremont Ave. Maci Christina Slater was pulling out of her driveway. Slater turned left (north) onto Fremont Ave. Slater made contact with Hensley causing damage to both vehicles.
8/31/2023 2400 block of T ave. Bruce Lee Stacy was driving north on T ave. Stacy reached into the back seat of the vehicle. Stacy entered the east ditch. Stacy tried to correct. Stacy then entered the west ditch. The vehicle that Stacy was driving sustained damage and the stump grinder that he was pulling sustained heavy damage.
9/04/2023 1400 block of Highway #48. Robin Renee Smith was traveling north on Highway #48. Just west of 1417 Highway #48 Janie Lynn Hall was entering Highway #48. Hall didn’t yield prior to entering Highway #48. Hall’s vehicle struck Smith’s vehicle. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage in this accident.
9/7/2023 1900 block of Highway #2. Nicholas Ray Williams was driving west on Highway #2. Williams struck the impact attenuator of the bridge. Williams’ car and the bridge sustained heavy damage in this accident.
9/10/2023 1900 block of Q ave. Heidi Suesan Dejongh was traveling east on 190th Street. Dejongh lost control at the intersection of 190th Street and Q ave. Dejongh’s vehicle left the roadway and ended up in a yard. Dejongh’s vehicle sustained light damage in this accident.
