IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Caitlin Clark was named Big Ten Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for the fifth time, and sophomore McKenna Clark earned Player of the Week Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday.

Clark has been named Freshman of the Week five times this season — every week that the Hawkeyes have had a contest. Warnock’s conference Honor-Roll mention is the second Big Ten honor of her career. She earned her first honor, Freshman of the Week, on Jan. 27, 2020.

Clark averaged 24.5 points, five rebounds, five assists, and 1.5 steals in a pair of Big Ten matchups against Rutgers and Illinois. In Iowa’s win over Rutgers, 90-84, Clark scored 12 of the Hawkeyes’ final 21 points. She followed up her Rutgers performance by scoring 21 points in 26 minutes of play at Illinois.

Warnock played solid games against Rutgers and Illinois, averaging 18 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. From the field, she shot 72.2 percent and from 3-point range, she shot 69.2. The Marshall, Wisconsin, native recorded a career-high five 3-pointers against the Scarlet Knights, knocking down four in the first quarter.

The Hawkeyes host Minnesota on Wednesday, Jan. 6 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. (CT) and will stream on BTN Plus.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Justin Herbert threw for 302 yards and accounted for four touchdowns against a team of mostly Kansas City backups, and the Chargers rolled to a 38-21 victory. The Chiefs turned their attention to the postseason and Los Angeles will now focus on the precarious future of coach Anthony Lynn. The Chiefs already had wrapped up the No. 1 seed and the AFC’s lone first-round bye, so coach Andy Reid chose to take rest over reps by sitting quarterback Patrick Mahomes, safety Tyrann Mathieu and several of his best players. Meanwhile, reports surfaced that Lynn could be fired as soon as Monday, despite the Chargers winning their final four games.

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Joanne Allen-Taylor scored 16 points to lead a balanced attack that included Charli Collier’s double-double and No. 19 Texas defeated Iowa State 74-59.
