No. 7 Iowa visits No. 19 Illinois Friday night

Sports

January 28th, 2021 by Ric Hanson

(Radio Iowa) The seventh ranked Iowa Hawkeyes look to maintain sole possession of second place in the Big Ten Friday night with a visit to 19th ranked Illinois. These two teams hooked up in a pair of emotional and hard fought games last season.

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who was asked about the rivalry between these two teams.

Iowa sophomore guard CJ Fredrick missed the second half of last week’s loss to Indiana with a lower leg injury. If he can’t go Connor McCaffery moves from forward to off guard.

Freshman Keegan Murray is the likely addition to the starting lineup if Fredrick does not play.

A heartbreaking loss at Illinois last season turned out to be the Hawkeyes final game.

That’s Iowa center Luka Garza who will be challenged by Illini seven foot sophomore Kofi Cockburn.

It is an eight o’clock tip off in Champaign. We’ll have the pre-game coverage beginning at 7-p.m., here on KJAN.

Iowa State women visit Kansas State Thursday night

Sports

January 27th, 2021 by Ric Hanson

The Iowa State women look to start a new winning streak on Thursday night with a visit to Kansas State. The Cyclones had a four game win streak snapped with a home loss to Texas on Saturday. The win streak started after a January third loss to the Longhorns.

That’s ISU coach Bill Fennelly who says the key in any conference race is to move on after a loss or a win.

The Cyclones beat the Wildcats 91-69 in Ames back in mid-December but Fennelly says that won’t matter in this game.

The Cyclones are 6-2 in the Big 12. K-State is 0-5.
