McKinnon’s walk-off touchdown run sends Chiefs past Texans in overtime

Sports

December 19th, 2022 by admin

Jerick McKinnon busted through for a 26-yard touchdown run in overtime to lift the Chiefs over the Texans 30-24. That play came directly after Frank Clark forced a fumble by Texans quarterback Davis Mills that linebacker Willie Gay Jr. pulled out of a scrum for the Chiefs.

Patrick Mahomes had another phenomenal game, going 36-41 for 336 yards and 2 touchdowns. Travis Kelce had yet another 100-yard receiving game with 105 and JuJu Smith-Schuster hauled in 10 catches for 88 yards.

The Chiefs had to overcome two costly fumbles in the game, one from running back Isaiah Pacheco that set up a short 17 yard touchdown drive for Houston. Pacheco battled back nicely with 88 yards on the ground, averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

The Chiefs had a chance to win the game in regulation but Harrison Butker’s 51-yard field goal attempt sailed wide right. Butker also missed an extra point earlier in the contest.

With the win Kansas City secured a spot in the playoffs and their 7th straight AFC West Division Title. They become one of just three NFL teams to win that many division titles in a row.

Kansas City is now 11-3 on the season and will prepare for a Christmas Eve game at Seattle on Saturday. We’ll have that game on KJAN.
