Former CAM standout Venteicher setting throwing records at SWCC

Former CAM standout Molly Venteicher has been honored as the NJCAA Track and Field Women’s Athlete of the Week and ICCAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week. Venteicher earned the honor by shattering personal records in both the Weight Throw and Shot-Put this week at the Dutch Athletic Classic in Pella.

Venteicher threw a nationals-qualifying toss of 15.53 meters in the weight throw, a new school-record. In the shot-put Venteicher had a throw of 12.58 meters, which is currently sixth in the NJCAA this season.

Venteicher took a 2nd place finish in both events at the meet, competing against a field of all four-year college athletes.

Waukee sweeps Atlantic boys home swim meet

The Atlantic boys swimming team swam well but fell to two tough and big teams at their home meet on Tuesday night at the Nishna Valley Family YMCA.

Alex Lihs had the 5th best time in the 100 Yard Freestyle at 54.00. The Trojans’ 200 Yard Freestyle Relay team was 4th fastest with a time of 1:39.57 (Alex Lihs, Kyler Rieken, Hunter Quist, and Keaten Rieken).

No. 10 Iowa women visit Michigan State Wednesday night

The 10th ranked Iowa Hawkeye women take a three game winning streak on the road to Michigan State Wednesday night. The Hawkeyes are connecting more from three point range and have averaged more than 98 points the last three games.

That’s Iowa coach Lisa Bluder who says they need to take care of the ball against the Spartan fullcourt press.

The Hawkeyes have won six of the last eight in the series but their last victory in the Breslin Center was back in 2018.

Iowa is 6-1 in the Big Ten and 14-4 overall.

Drake men host Missouri State Wednesday night

The Drake men look to build on an 11-game home winning streak Wednesday night when they host Missouri State in the Knapp Center. Both teams are 5-3 in Missouri Valley play and the Bulldogs let a late lead slip away in a 52-49 loss in Springfield in the first meeting. Drake coach coach Darian DeVries.

The top eight teams in the Valley are either 6-2 or 5-3 and DeVries says the key to success will be winning close games.

Drake is 14-5 overall.

UNI men host Illinois State Wednesday night

The Northern Iowa men are at home Wednesday night in Missouri Valley play to take on Illinois State. The Panthers won the first meeting at Illinois State on New Year’s Eve. The Panthers are 5-3 in the Valley and the Redbirds are 3-5.

That’s UNI coach Ben Jacobson who says both teams have made strides this month.

No. 12 Iowa State beats No. 7 Texas 78-67

Iowa State took control in the second half as the 12th ranked Cyclones beat number seven Texas 78-67. The Cyclones survived a slow start to move to 5-1 in the Big 12.

That’s ISU coach T.J. Otzelberger. Jaren Holmes led four Cyclones in double figures with 21 points.

The Cyclones outrebounded Texas 32-25 and also forced 13 Longhorn turnovers.

Chris Street documentary to air tonight on BIG

(Radio Iowa) – The Iowa men’s basketball game tonight (Wednesday) was postponed, but the premiere of a documentary about a Hawkeye legend will still be shown on the Big Ten Network. The one hour documentary chronicles the life of Hawkeye star Chris Street and his death in a car accident 30 years ago. The documentary will now air on the network following tonight’s Ohio State-Nebraska basketball game at approximately 8 o’clock.

The documentary includes how the Iowa team responded with an upset win over Michigan in their first game back on the court after Street’s death. That game from January 31st of 1993 will be replayed on the network following the documentary.

Clark earns another Big Ten Player of the Week honor

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa All American Caitlin Clark earned Big Ten Player of the Week honors the conference office announced on Monday.

This marks Clark’s 15th weekly award from the conference, which is fourth-most in conference history. She has garnered weekly honors three times this season which is a conference best.

Clark led the Hawkeyes to a pair of wins over Northwestern and Penn State. Against the Wildcats, Clark became the second all-time scorer in school history. The junior registered 20 points, a season-high 14 assists, nine rebounds. It was her 32nd double-double of her career.

Against the Lady Lions, Clark notched 27 points, 10 assists, and seven boards to lead Iowa to its 12th victory of the season by 10 or more points. She also hit another historic milestone becoming the 13th player in Big Ten women’s basketball history to dish out 600 assists in a career.

Clark is top five in country in 11 statistical categories and also has an NCAA best nine games with more than 25 points, five assists, and five rebounds. The West Des Moines, Iowa native, is the only player in the country with more than 475 points, 130 rebounds, 120 assists, and 25 steals.

The nationally ranked Hawkeyes are set to travel to Michigan State on Wednesday at 6:01 p.m. (CT). The game will broadcast on BTN+ (subscription required) and the Hawkeye Radio Network.
