Iowa Speedway prepares for new season

In a little more than a month the Iowa Speedway will host the first of five racing weekends and it will be capped off on June eighth by the Dupont Pioneer 250, the first of two NASCAR Nationwide series events this season. Spokesman Craig Armstrong says Iowa Speedway officials requested the race be move from May to June for this season. The Indy car series returns for the seventh straight year with the running of the Iowa Corn Indy 250 on June 23rd.

The season begins later and will end earlier this year. The final race, a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race is on September eighth. The Nationwide Series will return on August third with the U-S Cellular 250.

Garcia pitches Cardinals past Brewers 10-1

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Jaime Garcia pitched eight innings and Allen Craig drove in four runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 10-1 win over Milwaukee and the franchise’s first four-game sweep of the Brewers. Matt Holliday also homered for the Cardinals, who have won six straight, their most since taking eight in a row from July 11-21, 2010. It was the first time the Cardinals have four in a row from the Brewers, who moved to the NL and have been in the Cardinals’ division since the 1998 season.

Garcia (4-1), who won his third straight game, gave up one run on eight hits. He had three strikeouts and only one walk. Marco Estrada (2-2) lasted 3 1-3 innings for the Brewers, who lost for the fifth straight game.

Orb wins for Hall of Fame trainer…Bulls advance to meet Heat

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Orb, the co-favorite at 5-to-1, splashed through the slop to win the Kentucky Derby, giving Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey his first victory in the Run for the Roses. Longshot Golden Soul was second with Revolutionary third in the first leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown.

NEW YORK (AP) — Joakim Noah had 24 points and 14 rebounds, Marco Belinelli also scored 24 points and the Chicago Bulls beat the Brooklyn Nets 99-93 to win Game 7 of their first-round series. The fifth-seeded Bulls move on to play top-seeded Miami starting Monday night. Chicago and Miami split four games in the regular season.

BOSTON (AP) — The Toronto Maple Leafs have seized home-ice advantage by winning in Boston 4-2 to even that first-round NHL playoff series at a game apiece. Joffrey Lupul scored twice for Toronto, which hosts the next two games starting Monday night.

HOUSTON (AP) — Miguel Cabrera hit two home runs and tied a career with six RBIs to lead the Detroit Tigers’ 17-2 mauling of the Houston Astros behind a 21-hit attack. Max Scherzer won his fourth straight to begin the season,

LAS VEGAS (AP)— Floyd Mayweather Jr. improved to 44-0 with a unanimous decision over Robert Guerrero in a welterweight title fight in Las Vegas.. It was Mayweather’s first ring appearance since serving a jail term for assaulting the mother of his children, and he showed little rust in the ring in a dominating performance

Cardinals beat Brewers 7-6

MILWAUKEE (AP) – Jon Jay homered and drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth and Allen Craig and Daniel Descalso each hit home runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 7-6 win over the Milwaukee Brewers  on Saturday.  Shane Robinson singled to center and then took second on center fielder Carlos Gomez’s fielding error off Jim Henderson (2-1) who started the ninth for Milwaukee with the game tied at 6.

Robinson stole third and then scored when Jay singled up the middle.  Jay hit a three-run home run in the second, Craig connected for a solo shot in the sixth and Descalso put the Cardinals ahead with a two-run homer in the seventh.  Seth Maness (1-0) picked up his first major league win, working out of a jam in the eighth inning. Edward Mujica pitched the ninth for his eighth save.
